and now this crime has raised it's ugly head again in relation to the childrens' home in North Wales where a 50 year old guy has come forward complaining of sexual abuse by a top Conservative MP in the Thatcher government - fortunately this allegation is being taken very seriously by the Welsh government - why else would a man in his fifties make such an allegation if it were not true - I hope they get to the bottom of it all

A friend’s daughter was on the programme late 80s/early 90’s. She wanted to ‘be a film editor’ so cut and spliced some film together. She was chosen as it was a bit of an unusual request.

She was never ‘at risk’ as her mum chaperoned her all the time.

My friend said “that programme bought a lot of happiness to children / families and those memories are being spoilt / tainted for them” including those of my friend whose daughter died from Cf 11 years ago. :-(

The local newspaper carries reports of people being charged with sexual assault upon children and reports of those found guilty.

Never have I seen areport of anybody aquitted and I do know somebody who was. Luckily his life was not blighted afterwards because he lives in a village and everybody knows your business in a village before you do.

The little girl who reported him had a friend who had been assaulted and possibly wanted to see what all the attention was like. She told her mother whohad once been fostered by the man and his wife and she told the police.

Of course, it made him ill but he was supported, not only by a strong family but by his work colleagues and customers who requested he beput back on their round but a public clearing of his name has never happened.

Just opened my Rhondda Leader dated 1st November. Headline reads "Former hospital patient recalls star's visits.

Nigel Frost (50) was paralysed in 1997 on the Trehafod Bypass near Porth. He lived in Porth at the time and spent 9 months recovering in Stoke Mandeville. And he seems to have had long chats with JS because Vince Savile, his brother, lived a few streets from Nigel in a place called Cymmer. And Cymmer was a coal mining village in Rhondda before Thatcher/MacGregor decided Polish and Chinese imports of coal made more sense.

Nigel said "In my opinion, he was a womaniser who had a touchy feely way about him. He was always attracted to women wearing any gold."

"I have mixed feelings really about all the accusations that are flying about. I just don't understand why people who claim they were abused didn't come forward sooner"

"I suppose I was a bit star struck when I first met him. He always talked a lot and had an affinity with the Rhondda because of its mining background".

"I suppose I, along with many other patients at Stoke Mandeville, felt a little uneasy with him but little did we know that he would turn out to be such a monster"

Those involved in paedophilia, as it was explained to me, by the police, when I worked with a case, was that they live in a different world to what we do. I never wanted to delve into what they thought, or how they lived, but having worked with paedophiles, I;d say on the outside they are mostly fairly likeable people, after all that's how they get at there victims, but inside they are nothing like us, in how they think or act.

I'd advise anyone NEVER look on the internet to get any references to paedophilia it could land you in a lot of trouble, also why would anyone want to know anything about it, unless it has affected them.

Thats a fair point Lynda which I hadn't considered , apart from thinking at the time of this local man's arrest why was there only one person , when he had been involved with possibly hundreds of children. I would have thought that just one accuser would have made his trial fair but obviously the jury went against him because she was an assured young woman and he was a middle aged disabled man.-jl

Merlin Report 4 Nov 2012 14:07

The trouble with people who are jumping on the Bandwaggon is they detract from the people who have really been abused and thus make people skeptical , which goes back to when the offences against them would not be believed, and that is really sad.**M**. :-S

Sadly lynda my thread has come up about 3 pages too late - this was in answer to John's comment that he looked up Paedophilia on Wikipedia for reference purposes.

One problem that I have found with these long threads is that some comments (like mine) come up out of context and thus look rather odd (rather like the workings of my mind).

~Lynda~ Report 4 Nov 2012 14:00

I heard a very interesting debate last week, where someone asked, why it was that sex offenders are named as soon as they are arrested, even though there may never be charges against them, but the accuser has anonymity throughout. The reason was, that sex offences are usually not a one off, and therefore by naming the person other victims may come forward. I can see the logic behind that, if the person is suspected of other assaults, but not in all cases.

Janet Report 4 Nov 2012 13:20

What worries me about this whole situation is that if any man is totally innocent ,the fact that the police want to interview them means that their lives will never be the same again, regardless of the outcome.

I have no wish to defend or agree with the allegations against Freddie Starr but his work has immediately dried up because no-one wants to be associated with anything to do with JS.

Before I get another "where the hell are you coming from remark" I know of one innocent man who died in Armley Jail Leeds because a young woman accused him of a sexual attack on her as a child.

His mother continued the fight to prove his innocence after he died.

His innocence was eventually proved by a consultant who knew of his physical disability and that he couldn't have possibly done what he had been accused of. After the truth came out the girl had also accused her own father of the same crime but this couldn't be mentioned at the trial. The girls condition was described as 'false memory'.

I only hope some of these who are now getting on the band waggon are not suffering from the same 'false memory syndrome' and that some other innocent person can be drawn into this maelstrom of accusations. -jl

Sharron Report 3 Nov 2012 17:44

Yes,it could be people jumping on the bandwagon but it could be that these people, having suffered and never having believed, are finally able to unburden themselves.

They may well have been carrying an unbearable burden for most of their lives.

Now an alleged assault involving Leonard Rossiter (Rising Damp) in 1968!!!!

I don't wish to offend anyone on this thread and I certainly don't wish to divert attention from victims of JS and cronies but I am getting more cynical by the week re claims against people who are deceased and in fact died in 1984!
