Being a Social worker doesn't make you have any magic powers Janet, it's a job, and if any social worker was abused, then they may not of had the support at the time to do anything about it,but they may of well shared there story, but it may not have been listened to.
She can advise about abuse, but wouldn't probably confide anything about herself, only empathise, but only the victim chooses whether or not to tell the world.
A Social worker is there to support. I don't find it strange at all.

Just heard on Radio Wales News that one of Savile's nephews (Robert Foster) has apologised to all the victims.

On yahoo:
"Jimmy Savile's relatives have insisted they knew nothing of his "darker side" as they expressed their sorrow for his alleged victims.

In the family's first major reaction to the scandal, the Jim'll Fix It star's nephew Robert Foster released a lengthy statement charting their increasing horror at the revelations about his life.

Mr Foster, who helped organise Savile's funeral last year, tells how the family had been "proud of his achievements" but that this turned to shock as they were hit by the "firestorm of allegations".

He insisted the family had known nothing about this side of the DJ.""

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Oct 2012 13:14

Not having spoken about it before comes down to a number of possible factors.

She felt ‘shame’ for being in that position at the time, and that it was her ‘fault’.
She felt no one would believe her (from then until a few months ago)
She didn’t want to be seen as a ‘victim’ with her every professional action being judged by others who would by then have known.

There is safety in numbers; now that so many other people have come forward, she won’t feel that she was going out on a limb.

A survivor of historical abuse is possibly best person to advise in the same current position, and their experiences may even may be able to help establish trust and rapport with a current victim.

Until someone has been in the same position, it is impossible to make a judgement. Even if they have, different survivors react/cope differently.

Strange that a Social worker, with all the professional support surrounding them everyday, didn't use the help to share her story sooner.

How could they advise a child to speak to someone if they themselves kept schtum about an incident in their lives, only sharing her problem when others had done the ground work.-jl

John, you should have gone while the going was good, when you posted at 12.32, saying Goodbye, to AnnCardiff.
Now, you are more than ever wearing your welcome out.

I drew your attention to the remarks you made about Kay????and Sylvia. Now they will come back to haunt you., as I hope what you said about me yesterday, to gain Kudos, does

You don't know any of the people mentioned in this post who are memebers of GR ,so what gives you the right to assume anything about them, and what they will or won't do.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 26 Oct 2012 13:04

morally superior - as far as reporting child abuse is, I most certainly am morally superior to you, as is everyone else who has contributed to this post - none of us would have stood by and done nothing as you did, and had we done so we would not have broadcast the fact on the worldwide web

Rambling

Rambling Report 26 Oct 2012 13:00

John a 'fact' is only a 'fact' when it has been proven...until such time they are 'allegations'...I imagine that is why Ann mentioned the poor chap in Cardiff who was spuriously named online as the driver of the van.

Assuming that something, even on a seemingly reputable site, is accurate is risky...because the internet is open to everyone and can be manipulated accordingly ( eg I can show you sites which 'prove' Elvis is alive, that all O rhesus neg blood group members are descended from aliens..every week there is a 'bbc news' vid * on Youtube* announcing someone famous has died, a doctored video and totally untrue, etc).

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 26 Oct 2012 12:47

If anyone is wondering about the "spurious" information, it is:

1. An ex Prime Minister is involved. That is now in public domain if you buy a newspaper.
2. The Orr Report was suppressed by Tony Blair at about same time as he was discovering "WMD" in Iraq
3. Peter Righton led a paedophile ring from No 10 Downing Street.
4. Jimmy Savile's great niece has come forward and was told by family at time "yes, that sounds like our Jimmy"

How about ignoring me if you don't like me much and instead look at new FACTS that have emerged. Nobody is interested in raking up old bits and pieces to attack a member - just to show your moral superiority.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 26 Oct 2012 12:34

Cardiff is as far as your credibility goes - you pick up on spurious misinformation on other sites and put them on here - and please do ignore me

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 26 Oct 2012 12:32

So India is not relevant on this thread, but Cardiff crashes are?

My credibility is absolutely shot to pieces anyway. We have had a couple of threads about that. :-( :-( :-(

Don't read me. Lynda said that on her thread here - ignore me. I do with some posters.

Goodbye, AnnC (waves and blows kisses)
