Thanks Gwyn. I have looked at the census for Samuel but can find no trace, this is why someone suggested that maybe he was born overseas. I am sending off for the marriage certificate so hopefully I will get some more info.

Thanks Sue. Maybe I need to get his death certificate as well as the marriage cert. It seems very strange that I can find no trace of his birth or his sons. :-(

Where did they marry?
Have you found them in census?

Hi there
Can anyone give me some good advice. I am trying to trace my grandmother's husband but cannot find anyone of his name as born in the UK. I know Samual Rayne was born around 1880, but that all I have got. I have a marriage for him in England and a death, but no luck with his or my uncle Francis Rayne, birth. When he married my grandmother he already had Francis (I think) . That's all I know, apart from his name.
Someone has suggested that he may have been born overseas, but I don't know where to start.

Any ideas please.
