CLARIDGE'S - LAST NIGHT

I recorded it and watched later, it was very interesting. I worked in an hotel in the early 1970s when it was newly opened in Norwich and the attention to detail then was amazing. all done out in Naval decor, as it was called the Hotel Nelson (in Norwich) We wore uniforms in dark green with gold braid - it was really quite posh!

I loved the American couple and was so glad they had a lovely Christmas as it said later the poor lady died in February 2012. No more Christmases at Claridges for her and probably her hubby won't come back now, and will find a new way to celebrate Christmas.

Looking forward to the next episode

To be fair they did show the most expensive suites last night.

Just done a quick Google on the booking sites and you can get a room for two mid-week for around £600 or so......!

Afternoon Tea is £39 per person, and dress is elegant smart casual; no shorts, vests, sportswear, flip flops, ripped jeans or baseball caps.

I watched it and did ask the question to Pa in Law when we were watching If the head lady Housekeeper was as tidy at home. The interviewer then asked the question and it turned out she wasn't as tidy :-D

I thought the little American couple were very sweet and treated all the staff like old friends.

I look forward to next weeks episode :-D

Maryanna, there are a few 'to do' things on my list and a jolly nice afternoon tea is one of them.

When OH retires and we stay in London it's a definite along with revisiting old haunts..lolol

As an alternative I shall go with some friends and OH can go to a pie and mash shop *shudders*

Oh Sue, do go for afternoon tea if you can. We went for my daughter's hen do, The "oldies" one, Mums and Aunties. Not the rave up weekend in Brighton.

It was lovely, they couldn't do enough for us, bearing in mind they are doing it dozens of times a day, every day, it didn't feel at all like a conveyor belt. ( Not like the Ritz did )

And as for the ladies loo ................ there is even a lady to turn on the taps and hand you a towel. All for about thirty quid I think it was, bargain. M

We watched it, fascinating. I asked OH when he was going to take me there for just one night. After he finished laughing we decided we'd go for afternoon tea and hide in a laundry cupboard till the next day.

That'll be the only way we could stay there for one night.

I watched it and also found the price of rooms amazing :-0.....there's a lot of wealthy folk in the world! but the staff's attention to detail was probably what they like. You're a Japanese pop star and want a jaquizzi instead of a bath?.....no problem it'll only take 4 days...... :-)

It's certainly a beautiful hotel and their Irish butler will be a treasure, worked there since he was 16 yrs old,so must be good employers :-D

Hi Julia...

I actually recorded it and have just finished watching it, I found it fascinating and interesting. I have to say I didnt like the Christmas tree lol. Amazing as to how much people will pay and can afford to stay there. Claridges certainly go all out for all the customers but then again money talks ;-). Looking forward to the other episodes :-)

I watched it Julia and it was rivetting! I was mentally adding up how 16 days for that couple would cost them...a lot of money! I was lucky to join a party there about ten years ago and it is a very special place. I look forward to next week but am off now to walk the doggie. Have a good day :-)

No, I did not stay there, but watched the programme last night on BBC 2 at 9.00.
This was a very interesting programme, and quite an eyeopener. No wonder they charge the prices that they do - £6900 per night.
This is a three parter, and I would recommend the viewing.
Anybody else watch it.
