.... and which was your favourite property and/or location ??

(Jus,t really, to get a 'housing' debate away from another thread ...... :-D )

The house I'm in now, which is the 1st place we brought for the princely sum of £6000 in the 80s. We had lived in rented flats before and it was great to have a garden.

My first home was in Dymchurch, Kent - right on the seafront. Primarily, at that time, holiday homes for the more 'well off'.

Since then I've lived in terraces, flats, bungalows and detached of all sizes - 34 in all, excluding my current abode. Some of them would, these days, be worth a considerable sum - but all were rented, fully furnished, and periodic decoration was also gratis, if inconvenient at times.

One of the favourites was a converted Courthouse, 5 mins walk from a 'Members Only' beach, with it's own, eh, 'refreshment' area ;-)

As a child best was Newport Pembrokeshire.
Large house with an attic where we played on wet days and the beach to play on for the rest of the time.

Worst was a Glasgow tenement where I had to chain my son's pram to the railings. Having first removed said son of course.
I'm talking about the 1970s here.

Now I live in suburbia, easy access to London. Mixed blessing really as my borough is one of the most polluted in the country but we also have the largest number of green spaces of all the London Boroughs.
You need the latter to cope with the former ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

lived in the town of crowborough ,sx for the first 21years of my life ..then tunbridge wells ,kent(when first married )there for 14years,now living in the village of ticehurst in sx , love it here , but bungalow now to big for us (says she who has to clean it)..

My favourite was Fountain House in Whitchurch, Shropshire. It was built in 1897 for the chauffeur of a local gentleman who lived at a large house called Paul's Moss. I think he was E P Thompson and he was a millionaire, even in 1897 (money from banking in Liverpool)

He built 3 lodges at same time near Paul's Moss and all had oak, best local brick, best slate roofs, best of everything. Quite small house with only 3 bedrooms and a tiny bathroom and no garage. But it was just a beautiful quality house to live in and I felt very privileged :-D

Lovely Place Dymchurch Mr Daff, Lot of Smuggling History there.Two places I really Liked (1) Just off Peak Road in Hong Kong, the other a Big Victorian Mansion I partially rebuilt and restored, re- installing all the bits and pieces, which had been removed plus adding a lot of Modern Bits such as Central Heating,En Suite bathrooms and of course the magnificent Fireplaces Etc.But time and age moves on and downsizing happens.**M**.

I was born in Walsall and lived on Sutton Road in a very nice house with my parents and sister until I married. My husband came from Willenhall, and we moved in 1969 to Brewood nr Wolverhampton. The houses there were cheap at the time and are astronomical prices today. We had two new houses in a short space of time then moved in 1977 to Wightwick, in a detached old house. The building society would not give us a mortgage as it was in such a poor sate of repair, however we wanted it and eventually found a sympathetic building society. We spent the next 30 years renovating it. It was beautiful I loved it, and it was my husbands pride and joy. When my husband died I down sized to a new semi detached house and my son lives in the other one. I now live near Sutton Coldfield with my new partner, he was born in this house and wild horses will not move him from here. I can honestly say that I have been lucky and happy where ever I have lived.

Paula+ got a cousin who lives in Coven,and my uncle built a lot of Bungalows just off the Stafford Rd turn that leades to Brewood. Nice Little Village (Last time I saw It. Must be much Larger Now Though.

Our favourite location was Mortimer in Berkshire. It had a real country village atmosphere where everyone looked out for each other, and reminiscent of my childhood area. We only stayed there about 3 years which is just as well as we'd have outgrown the house. Mother in law said that it was a 'Dolls House' but it suited us at the time.

We've lived in our current home in Kent since 1984 and are quite happy with it even if the near-by main road has got a lot busier and noisier since then. Even though as teenagers the children complained that 'there was nothing to do, and no late public transport', they now say they love the greenery and fields surrounding the area.

We've vaguely talked about downsizing, but hope we can cope here for many years to come.

I've lived in Castles and Palaces across the globe. Just wanted to get in first before "someone" nabs the idea, and goes into great detail of how great it was :-D

Anyway, real life, every house I have lived in has has been a happy house, from the smallest to the largest. have always thought the best house was the house I live in at the time.

I was born in Rosyth and have lived in Glencraig, Ballingry, Dundee, Perth, Iona, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, and for the past 22 years I have lived in the Bromley area of Kent.

My favorite place has to be the beautiful Island of Iona where I worked and lived in the Abbey there in the late 1960's.

@ Merlin Like everywhere Brewood has grown over the years, very nice though and retains it's old world charm. We still used to go to The Oakley Coun try Club when my husband was alive. I went with OH went for lunch at the Fox & Anchor in Coven last summer, I had not been there for years it was good sitting by the canal watching the barges go by, and it was packed too..

Quite like where we are, having lived there for 38 1/2 years.
Only our second property but having had two extensions added, converting it from three bedrooms to five, it's got a lot of our own input in it.
But must start de-cluttering.

Does it count Lynda my ancestors owned castles and manor houses lol, lots owned now by National Trust

Me I have lived in a small terraced house in North London for the past 48 yrs. love it, but would now like to move from area not house.

I like this thread, particularly now it is a Wolverhampton thread. Coven and Brewood have reminded me of two things.

One of my mum's best friends was Betty Morse. She latterly (1970's/80's) ran a pub in Coven. It was not the one mentioned - does "Rainbow" ring any bells? Canal?

And we nearly moved from Finchfield about 1958 to a lovely thatched cottage half way between Brewood and Bishops something. Fab little cottage - two old ag lab cottages knocked together with low ceinings and two staircases. It was next to a pub and bus-stop in a hamlet with Horse(?) in name. Just before we moved, roof collapsed - so dad decided to stay in Finchfield :-( :-(

Merlin, the house in Dymchurch was 100 yds from the Ship Inn - the local of the author of the Dr Syn books.

Unfortunately, it was 400+ yds on the way back ..... :-S :-D

Wallasey (when I was a baby so I don't really remember it), Cheshire, Wales, Wales, Isle of Man , Cambridgeshire, Cornwall, Somerset, Cheshire, Kent, Kent, Clwyd,Gwynedd,, and this is the third house in Shropshire lol .

I have very fond memories tied to the house in the Isle of Man and the location was wonderful, but as a house in terms of a house I would have loved to stay in and make a permanent home it would have to be the last one I rented in Shropshire, it was my ideal house with a bit of re-arrangement.

I was born in Walsall too. Know the 1st part of Sutton Rd by Springhill Rd. Had relatives in Lumley Rd, Walsingham St, Moncrieffe St, Florence St, Tantarra St (before the flats) and Chuckery Rd. Wonder if you know that part of Chuckery Paula?

I lived in the Birchills, not too far from what is now Junction 10 M6.

Have lived at several RAF camps in Lincs, Norfolk, Oxon, Wilts, Cornwall, Glous, Cyprus. No comment about that accommodation.

Had house in Chatham, 2 houses in Newark and 1 at Walesby, the Notts 1 and Cyprus. Best house was Walesby, best location Cyprus. :-)
