Was invited over to newish neighbours the other day for a cuppa and in conversation we touched ...surprise surprise.... on family history.
Now they moved here from South Africa and he is English and she is S African with Dutch forebears.
She brought out a beautifully bound hard back book with all her family listed from 1530 to the present.She is no 446!
Apparently the female side keep their surname which does make it easier.
They get a family newsletter from Holland every month.
Her husband said ...it's all done for you without the hard work....I said but the search is exciting!
