On the similar line DetEctive, ......I bought my mother in law a huge wrist watch ( a funky one ) as her eye sight was getting bad prior to a cataract operation. She complained about the size and suggested I got her a sling for her arm to support the weight of the watch presumably -jl

For Christmas one year my 6 & 7 year old boys gave me a bag of elastic bands, an eraser, paper clips and a half eaten giant Toblerone :-D. They had been given the Toblerone by our next door neighbour as a treat but they didn't like it. It's the thought that counts and it did make me laugh.

When my x and I got married we were given a pair of sheets by a wealthy Aunt of his. They came complete with nicotine stains down the folds from being stored in her wardbrobe :-( ........ not much thought went into that

I can't remember any really strange gifts, but the most unusual one that I have given was a coracle.
When asked what he wanted for a birthday OH said he'd like a coracle ( goodness knows why )
It just so happened that there was one on e bay that week and the bidding finished on his birthday, so it must have been meant to be !

I'd almost forgotten this

Many years ago a boyfriend's mother gave me a box... she said to keep hankies and things in.

She had covered a box with wallpaper & varnished it.

I kept it until the boyfriend & I broke up, she would have KNOWN!

I remember my mother laughing so much at it, she had tears pouring down her face. <3

Yes he did take it out on a canal, having first donned a new white T shirt. He went while I was already out, so I didn't witness the event, but judging by the amount of mud I had to wash out of his clothes, there must have been many a capsize !
He has since lost over 8 stones, so it might be easier now. I believe the coracle needs another coating of pitch, or whatever to make sure it is waterproof,, then roll on summer and hopefully I will watch the next launch.
