Here is a campaign/petition that you can sign re the Bedroom Tax....l asked 38Degrees if there was such a thing and this arrived this afternoon.

My late Mum wanted to give up her three bedroomed house but there wasn't any sheltered housing available for her even tho she was living on the ground floor with only an outside loo, a commode in the hall way and no downstairs bathroom. She died after waiting over a year, still in her house. She would have been penalised by this new tax had it been brought in then.

It's disgraceful, too many people get away with not paying taxes and such yet once again the penalties are against the wrong folk. Lots of people need their spare rooms to have carers or such stay and some like to have grandchildren or family visit and wouldn't get the visits if there was no where for them to stay. Seems parents who only have their children at weekends etc are to be penalised too and have to pay the tax, it will take the money from the kids indirectly.

It's not just the people we allow in, I think money is sent back to their dependents through benefits as well - the European ones anyway.

Where will it all end? A joke that Cameron misquoted that the debt was getting smaller when in fact it isn't. Where's the money from the cutbacks going if not to reduce the national debt?

my wife works in social housing and there organisation thinks that the universal credit plus the bedroom tax is going to cost them over 1 million pounds in uncolected rents and arrears
they have no 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom properties available to move people down to.
also they are going to start making people on benefits contribute to the council tax
so a single person will get £71 a week to fund food ,heating and lighting,clothing ,water rates and now council tax.
i think we can look forward to a surge in crime as desperate people try to survive

Rather than ask people on benefits to pay part of the council tax, it would be better to increase the rate for the higher bands – E & F for instance and increase the council tax on holiday/second homes rather than them being free or reduced when unoccupied.

If smaller properties aren’t available to downsize to, the councils are gong to have to write off the bedroom tax debt.

Much easier to delve into the Millions invested by Councils as Emergency Funds,The emergency is now,and the money belongs to the Taxpayer,Not the Loonies who run the Councils.**M**

I am unclear if people are going to lose part of their benefit even if they want to downsize yet there are no smaller places available?

they will lose no matter if they want to move or not

if you have child under the age of 10 they are expected to share the parents room and so you would only qualify for a 1 bedroom property
under the age of 30 you only qualify for £50 lha for a room in a shared house
under 25 you do not qualify for any benefit

the bedroom tax only applies to those in work and between the ages of 16 and 61.

I personally chose to downsize last month.

I think it very wrong that they have set the age of the child at 10. Actually I think it wrong that they expect any child above toddler age to share a room with parents, to me it is not healthy, but what do I know?

and it does seem wrong if they bring in a law for which people are fined because there is no provision for them to abide by the law.

it takes no account of spare rooms for foster parents as any foster children are not counted as part of the family
if you are disabled and need a seperate bedroom from your partner too bad

one of the most barbaric pieces of legislation ever introduced in recent times

And next we will hear there is a shortage of foster care. Ridiculous legislation and one that will certainly lose votes.
