Feeling better today - hence on PC!!! The dreaded pseumonas raised its ugly head last week.

Hi Chris having chronic asthma myself i can only just begin in a small way to understand how you must feel. My Mum and several other members of my family have COPD I really hope i never get to that stage and i continue to manage my asthma as well as i have been. Sadly, unless anyone has lived with respitory problems they can never really know how it feels or the full implications of what something like spraying an aerosol can mean. Trust yu are keeping well x

My COPD began with asthma also. My family have used deodorants for many many years.

However, I would point out that aftershave and perfume are lethal. Boys and girls appear to slather themselves in it from about the age of 13. I have often felt sympathy for teachers with all these different scents wafting around a classroom.

When I go to hairdressers, I go on a Tuesday afternoon - very quiet - usually me - perhaps one other - any other day of the week and I could not breathe in spite of my oxygen. Some folks never learn that less is more!

In the USA they have asthma friendly schools where aerosols are banned.

Make it a school rule as they have done with taking knifes and the like....once the rule has been brought before a govenor meeting and the Ed dept approve pupils and parents notified by letter ,,,,,,hey presto!....any found being used in school will be taken off the offender......sorted.

Well ...your OP is asking how they would implement this ...so obviously you knew that they were implementing it by confiscating ... so same question why did you ask ? anyway why not ask the school , how is anyone on here supposed to know what they plan to do about it .

It too soon to know. confiscating a can of hairspray and taking away aerosols does not solve the problem.

Well if a hairspray was taken away today why are you asking how they are going to implement it ... surely you know .

The staff members are affected because students are spraying themselves in corridors and classroom whenever they feel like it. A hairspray was taken away today. Like Carol said there's other reasons why but health is priority.

I hope ithe ban goes for hairsprays aswell,its not just deodrants that spark off attacks.......

If the teachers concerned have no dealing with PE classes and dont enter the showers or the girls toilet/s ,how are they affected.?

All spray cans have been banned at my Grandsons school for several years, not just because of their danger to asthmatics, but because several had been lit & thrown.


Spot checks of bags & a few detentions seems to work.

Hi Sue they have witnessed the staff having attacks n still it happens.

All the pupils that still insist on taking/using aerosol deodarants should be taken round a childrens or adults ward in a hospital just to show them what damage aerosols can do to an asthamtic people.

And then educated on using roll on deodarants.

I can't stand aerosols near me as I have COPD and don't have them in the house.

The teenagers can use a roll on after showers.

What nasty kids they must be to persist in using aerosols when they know it's made people ill.

To answer Roy - yes its extended to staff too even though they haven't been doing the spraying.

Why not do as my Astmatic daughter does, use roll on deoderants. as it is the propellants that mainly cause the problems

Its starting to be implimented this week after 2 members of staff with chronic asthma had attacks - one was hospitalised. So far the ban on aerosals is not being adhered to as the teenagers argue they need it after PE. All the incidents happened in other lessons not PE.
