The earliest Clusker I have in my tree is a Patrick Clusker born in 1821 in Ireland, and from the number of Patrick Clusker's I have found as a result of my numerous searches I am convinced that if they all went back to Ireland, the island would probably sink :-(

I recently discovered the grandaughter of a lady born the same year and in the same town and with the same name as my Nan. They were in fact 3rd cousins born a few streets away and the grandaughter grew up v near me. Also, I found my missing Boden living in the USA and the origins of my Darlows x

No real brickwalls attacked, although we live in hope that one day the missing deaths will pop out of the ether.

Father-in-law was a benfeciary of an intestate Estate a few years and was given a skeleton tree of the other heirs on that line. At last I've managed to find the unnamed spouses for some of the deceased people. :-)

Same here Rose - I'm eagerly awaiting the 1921 release as that's my ONLY chance of finding elusive grandad listed 'cos I KNOW he was in London that year having just married grandma at the end of 1920.
Ditto on the 'must get organised' because the amount of genealogy stuff I have versus the space I have is ridiculously unbalanced, particularly as I've just been clearing my parents' house for sale, and inherited TONS of stuff.

Maggie, I'm sorry to hear about your mum, it's a difficult time, and going through personal belongings and papers isn't an easy task. I've just about finished clearing my parents' house - they lived there for almost 50 yrs and didn't throw a thing away! Good luck with the sorting.

Let's all share the virtual sledgehammer for the brickwalls :-D

I would firstly like to say a big thank you to the many volunteers on here who do a marvellous job, keep up the excellent help you provide. They have provided me with valuable and very useful information allowing me to expand my tree.

I try to work on my tree every day, but be honest I now find that I am mainly adding distant relations who are not part of the direct lineage of the two main arms of my family. My brick walls seem to be surrounded by a shark infested moat that I cannot find a way across to be able to demolish them :-(

There are several things that restrict my efforts to trace my ancestors, the first is this genealogy lark is to expensive for anyone living on a state pension, the second is that I was advised by Register House in Edinburgh that there is a gap between the years 1742 and 1789 in the Parish Records for the area my ancestors resided, thirdly OPR prior to 1855 contain little relevant information, and fourthly Census Records only go back as 1841.

I haven't done much for a while.
However, as mum died in December, I have what she left in a storage unit in the UK and bequeathed to me, in the spare bedroom......................

Four huge boxes of genealogical stuff :-S

I know some of it is a repeat of what I already have, so have to check all her files and get rid of repetition. She also had stuff on floppies (again probably repeats), but will have to be transferred onto CD or memory stick and looked at.
Many certificates - mum decided to look into her uncles tree - he moved to the Isle of Wight. Though interesting - she had a few second cousins contact her - not really relevant at the moment.

I now also have the pictures and postcards from Gran's house, after she died, and a few more of gran's letters to look at and transcribe.

I also have to cancel mum's subscriptions to 4 genealogical societies. Two of which I have no idea why she subscribed to them.
I have 2 carrier bags full of these books here, another 2 in my brother's car in France - his car broke down outside Bordeaux coming back from Portugal, and 4 bags left in Portugal - to be picked up later..

Mum lived in Portugal, but had been making arrangements to move back to UK - hence the stuff in storage. My 3 siblings and I have just been out there to clear the house and sort out legalities - got back yesterday.

Sooooo will probably be doing quite a bit of genealogical stuff, in between work, soon.....

Two brick walls have been crumbling - one Is the family rumoured (very very remote) cousinship with Shelley on my side, now got all the details - and on OH's side the birth certificate of his great-grandfather actually had his mother's maiden name on it. started tracking it and found her ancestors are from Ayrshire, so I have lot of Scottish clues but have to navigate my way through Scottish records which are new to me. All of which are going to take big chunks of time especially on A--y where they kindly flag up a million possible connections while you're putting the first one in! So I have got to somehow plan a few clear hours to get a start - but it is a thrill when you do get these break throughs.

Still trying to trace both grandfathers. My paternal grandfather would appear not to exist before 1904 and as for my maternal grandfather I only know his surname as my gran was very inconsiderate and never married him. Mind you she was married to someone else at the time!!

That sounds really interesting Karen, good luck with it!

Nice to hear that some of you are finding things , a 'virtual' sledgehammer coming to the rest of you for use on your walls ;-).

I have been saying for about 6 years that I " must get organised" and...I must get organised lol. I am hoping to hold on for the 1921 cebnsus release lol still intrigued as to what grandfather did between wife number one and wife number two , if there wasn't another wife in between that is :-)

STILL got the same impossible brick wall as ever - grandad who came from Mars and disappeared back there after marrying grandma and hanging around for just a couple of years. I still search now and again as new records are always coming up and/or being updated, but sometimes he drives me nuts and I swear I'm going to abandon him completely and forever!!

Haven't been doing much else on my tree or the other trees I'm running as busy studying full time for my post-grad Diploma in Family & Local History - I'm flat out with that . It's Latin this term :-0 :-S and that ain't easy :-S

P.S. I need Carol's sledgehammer for elusive and irritating grandad :-|

I am also one of those who now mostly search for other people's rellies, got involved in a one named study last year and that has kept me busy, but on my own tree I have been stuck for a few years now, and it's not from the lack of time I spend in Record Offices!
Kind regards

Good evening everyone. I can now go further into researching my OH's family as on our trip to the Falkland Islands one of his neices has downloaded a lot of information to a memory stick. We now have the family tree for his mother's side of the family.

I am at a standstill and waiting for the next census or any new records to appear online. Really I should start doing some footwork as there are not too many Irish Catholic records online which is where I am stumped at the moment.
