not sure what you are talking about when you say "previous post has been edited"

If you are referring to either of my two postings at 20:45 and 20:53 .................. neither has been edited or altered since I posted them.

Nor has the earlier one posting about the Creeds.

so I am not guilty

I didn't realise that *Religious type* was a derogatory term !!!!!!

Do we have to say *person with religion* now???

I have to admit when I looked in earlier I did go and check which thread I was on as I thought I'd opened the Christian one by accident.

Of course folk are free post as they wish.......but I'm equally free to comment upon it :-D

**edit...my post makes no sense now as previous post has been edited*

never knew I was a flower before :-D :-D :-D

You can put down what I posted on the Nicene and Apostles Creeds to the fact that I have never ever lost my interest in research ....... which is why I so enjoy genealogy.

I was intrigued by what John asked ............ and was rather amazed to find that I could sit here and recite the Apostles Creed almost perfectly ..............................

that tells you what being taugth religion 5 days a week form age 4 to 11 can do for you.

I certainly never expected to be called a "religious type.

or get involved in the flack being thrown at John.

I'm a heathen ................ have been for more years than you have been alive, probably

Never ever call me a religious type!

That's a derogatory term for anyone, let alone a heathen!!

I was answering a legitimate question asked by John

so no need to get sarky!

John .....

you ask about the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed

I was raised in the Anglican Church, and was educated in a church school where we were thoroughly schooled in the church. The church (and therefore the school) that we attended was not then High Church, although I believe it has since become at least "higher" than it was. I heard a couple of years ago that the Vicar was called "Father".

I made a conscious decision at the age of 11 when I left that school to go on to the Grammar School that religion was no longer for me ................. the school had killed any love or desire in me.

However, I was intrigued by you remarks about the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed.

so I googled them!

The Apostles Creed that I learnt so long ago, and which I can still recite with little attention to the printed copy was the "old" one used by the Anglican Church .................

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried:

etc

which was very similar to the version used by the Catholic Church ................

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

etc

and to most other Christian churches, including Methodist.

The Nicene Creed, interestingly for those who do know, is named for and was adopted in the city of Nicaea (Iznik in what is now Turkey) by the first ecumenical council, which met there in the year 325 ............

and it of course is found in all Christian religions, both Eastern and Western in almost the same form.

Personally, I too love candles stain glass windows incense and all the trappings of the Anglo Catholic faith, which is what I was brought up with, but that is just 'me', no way would I ever seek to argue with anyone else who has different preferences. The times I have been to places of worship who prefer to talk to God in a more or less flamboyant way, then that's ok too - I just don't see that it matters; each to his own and tolerance to everyone!
