Thanks Ann, all I know is that her name was Elizabeth Hale, born c. 1811 in Lisbon Portugal. I know all about her after 1835, but nothing before.

My 3 x great Grandmother was born in Lisbon Portugal, c. 1811. She married in London in 1835, and in all the census' it states where , she was born, and says she was a British Subject. It has been suggested before, that perhaps her father was serving in the army in Portugal at the time of her birth, hence her being born there.

My question is, would, if her father was in the army there, could her mother have gone with her father to Portugal, or is it more likely her mother was Portuguese? I have no names of either of her parents, but would love to know why she was born in Portugal.
I very much doubt they were on a package holiday :-D

Any suggestions please?
