I made a lot of internet friends on the "original" FR ................. the Boards were really active at that time.

Then they set FR Connections ............. you're quite right, ET, it was a site set up to siphon off all the "chat" from FR.

The idea was that FR was not set up to have chat threads, and that was the root cause of problems with slowness, throwing you off the site, etc.

FRC was set up to be a chat thread .............. and, so we were told, would be fast

FRC could be quite a nasty site .................. as originally set up in the Beta format, everyone was expected to use a "board name" that was an alias. They got about 100 FR members to do the test run ............... nobody liked it.

Then they decided to open it to the public.................... and after about a year, they forced all the FR Board users to move over .......

........ by that time loads of people had joined with all these strange names. You had no idea who you were talking to .............. it became an ideal site for stalkers, trolls, etc

That's what happens when you set up a free chat site, and want everyone to use aliases

The FR users found their own little niche on FRC, and things hummed along quite happily for a couple of years ................. until the powers-that-be (ITV were still the owners) decided they wanted nothing more to do with FRC and all its problems, and closed it down, forcing everyone back on the Boards that had been set up on FR

Those worked OK ....... but then they did this last reno of the site.

Most of the people I knew from FR and FRC are now on Facebook, although a few are hanging on in FR because they don't like FB, or they feel some sort of loyalty.

I look in about once every couple of months, to see what's happening to those guys ..........................

did you know that you can only post on threads that you were signed on to before they did the make-over????

Hi Berona before you leave your old FR account you should delete all your photos and messages etc, thats what I did and that way they dont get displayed for other FR members to see.
I checked, and all of the photos I had previously put on there ( School photos etc) had gone.
Yes it amazes me me how some folk on Facebook have several 100 "friends", what`s that all about then???
Something like name collecting for the fun of it? ;-)

I found that FR had helped themselves to photos which were in a Facebook album and they spread them throughout my FriendsR account - asking if I want to keep them? What if I had not wanted my FR friends to see them?
I told them to remove them and they did, but I closed my account and opened another with a different email address. Then, months later, as I was logging in, I accidentally gave the old password - and up came my whole cancelled account showing that I had 250 messages!....On checking, I found that they went right back years since I first joined them many years ago.
I would prefer not to put anything on there that I wasn't prepared for the world to see. . I particularly don't like them asking me to be friends with my daughter's friend's son-in-law and other remote people. Why are these social media people so keen on us collecting 'friends'??? I see some people with more than 400 'friends' - some of whom they know nothing about. I certainly could NOT cope with that many friends.

Hiya Ronald, (old jim rings a bell)
it was FR"Connections". You are probably thinking back to when this site was first launched as "Genes Connected" .
FR "Connections" was I believe a beta site to Friends Reunited the style was similar to Facebook ,maybe Facebook pinched the idea and improved on it. :-D

To put it in a proper perspective it is now utter (c**p) rubbish.. I dont know why they dont close it down altogether, a complete waste of cyberspace.:-|

Facebook`s not brilliant but much more preferable to FriendsReunited now.
They have made a right pig`s ear out of it ,,,MUPPETS. :-P

Its no longer a social site its a glorified Scrapbook, bit like Keepsafe on here.
Mind you, the Keepsafe adage on here I find to be OK.

They should have kept the Genes "Connections", now I liked that. :-)

Rant over.. :-(

Edit, Good Morning everyone , :-D :-D
