Unbelievably Brazen

A smartly dressed 76 yr old English woman on a bus tour in the south island of Nz brazenly stole a quilt from a wall in the arrowtown museum popped it in her bag then quickly left
When the police caught her a day later she told them the quilt fell of the wall
(You can clearly see her lifting them to see how they are attached)
And that she was ashamed and threw it in the bin
Funnily enough of course all the bins were searched and no quilt was found
The museum curator believes it has been posted back to the uk
The nerve of the woman is unbelievable
Check her out google museum theft arrowtown Nz to see the CCTV footage
And maybe if someone knows how you can link it

Oh my, what a cheek!

I always knew that postage was cheaper than overweight luggage, but this woman takes it too far! :-D

I'm guessing there's an alert at her local post office.

Thanks Jax
Scozz unbelievably No
It appears Nz police figured it more cost effective to fine her as she was leaving the country anyway so she has got away with it
No wonder the museum curator is so upset
I just hope people recognise her,
Serve her right not only for stealing in the first place but for lying and not returning it

What an evil b***h. I am sure they will be able to track the quilt down as it won't have got far yet and might still be in N.Z.

People like her give the English a bad name

Terrible isn't it
The arrowtown museum is a quaint little place
Most of the little towns in Nz have something like it
No one imagines people will steal from them
Mind you I bet she wasn't expecting a camera
:-D
She looks quite posh too

Did the police enquire about her mental state? Kleptomania in the older person could be a sign of Dementia.

If she's been fined, why wasn't she named?

Wow...and she did it very tidely (sp) too, folded it andput it inher bag,no rush, then had another look or straightened another quilt.......was she really 76yrs old or dressed to look that way?? She looked very fit too!!

Are there photo's of the quilt that can be printed in the UK to warn people if it should come up for sale??

She sure did have some nerve...LOL

Don't the customs check incoming post? I am sure people have had to pay duty on things sent from abroad so there may be a way of it falling into the right hands.

I am wondering if she stole anything else while in NZ.

Hope that people where she lives see this video and recognise her.

They very politely haven't named her!!!
She's a thief - she should be named & shamed.

I think calling her an evil b***h is a bit strong she may have a mental illness cant think of the name were she steals things, but do agree she is a theif I do hope she gets some help :-D

She certainly seems to be a very cool customer, I can't help wondering if she has a compulsive stealing disorder like kleptomania.

Perhaps she thought it was a NZ Take away.

Island Report 23 Mar 2013 13:34

I wondered how she managed to 'pop' a quilt into her bag :-S then I saw it was a small wall hanging!
The way she is openly 'browsing' does look as if she was unaware of what she was doing. Where was the curator?

Merlin

Merlin Report 23 Mar 2013 13:48

If she,s shipped it to the UK.she will have to declare what it is and pay customs duty plus VAT. Even if it is sent as a gift, anything from outside theEU.has to pay it.hopefully they will get it back, and if she is ill ,arrange for her to have treatment,if not ,fine her heavily and make her pay all the costs involved. :-|

Hayley....l had'nt looked at it like that before, but yes that could be the case. She could be unaware of exactly what she is doing, the way she folded it, if she was stealing it surely she would have bunged it into her bag and gone off alot quicker.
Hope they can help her if this is the case!!

Those quilts fetch really good money over here,,,,,into 100'spounds,,,,same as from US homestead style ,,,,,,they are usuallly all hand stitched and unique.

She looks to know just what she was doing.Thief.

Those on the bus will know who she is so could spill the beans to the media when they get back to UK.
