Blind benefit cheat caught driving

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

OneFootInTheGrave Report 28 Mar 2013 07:40

A benefits adviser who claimed he was blind and disabled was jailed yesterday after it emerged he fraudulently received £100,000 in handouts :-|

Porkie_Pie Report 28 Mar 2013 08:04

OFTG Ive deleted my link and amended this post now to save any possible confusion

The fraudster slept through his sentencing at Harrow Crown Court – and could be heard snoring loudly.

I don't think two and a half years is anywhere near enough when you think he will only serve between 14 and 18 months given the amount of money involved and his total contempt shown whilst being sentenced

OneFootInTheGrave Report 28 Mar 2013 08:16

Thanks Roy, I have no feeling in my fingers on my right hand following a stroke, must have done something with my mouse that duplicated the link hence you could not access it, have corrected it now :-S

AnnCardiff Report 28 Mar 2013 09:30

usually offenders are made to reply the money

Porkie_Pie Report 28 Mar 2013 09:32

Ann, A confiscation of assets hearing has been listed for July.

DazedConfused Report 28 Mar 2013 12:59

It is hard enough to get any disability benefits these days, this is just outrageous.

OneFootInTheGrave Report 28 Mar 2013 13:03

Outrageous is putting it mildly, unfortunately I could not type on here what I think ;-)

Dermot Report 28 Mar 2013 14:21

It isn't easy to make sense out of nonsense jail terms.

eRRolSheep Report 28 Mar 2013 14:50

On the other hand...

I had a taxi driver the other day who I am sure WAS blind lol

OneFootInTheGrave Report 28 Mar 2013 15:06

I've experienced taxi drivers like that :-D :-D :-D

He owns several houses so hopefully the money will be refunded from the sale of those. To sleep through the sentencing is the worst kind of arrogance. I can't see he will learn anything from the sentence, he will just teach others how to scam while inside I expect, and make money from doing so, paid in cigs or whatever.

Horrible man

LadyScozz Report 30 Mar 2013 06:11

Man who was my Mother's neighbour was "legally blind"....... but he had a driver's license, and got a discount on that, because he was a pensioner!

Don't these government departments talk to each other??

Silly me, ofcourse they don't.

Dermot Report 30 Mar 2013 15:04

I know some who have perfect eyesight but very poor vision.
