MotownGal Report 4 May 2013 06:52

Me 4! :-D

So did Serena's sister know? Was she covering up for her Mum?

All a bit confused in the end, and a bit slap-dash.

Shame, cos it could have been a lot better.

the books are always better than the films x

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 3 May 2013 22:10

Me 3, but to be honest I wasnt impressed with it, I thought the story telling was rushed and hopeless, I don't believe that Serena would be able to piece all the evidence together with 1 bit of paper. I would be interested to hear from anyone that read the book and if the ending is the same, I suspect the book is probably more detailed and better written. :-(

Just a reminder that the last episode is tonight.

I have stuck with it, but don't know how it will end.

The papers say that the ending in the programme is not the ending in the book.

I am going to stick with it, and see what happens.

I presume next week Serena and Poppy will meet.

The teacher was a bit of a swine I thought. You could see last night he was playing one off against the other.

Silly Sausage Report 20 Apr 2013 17:31

I too enjoyed it, its a 3 parter and the 1st one is always to map the story out, so I expected flash backs.

Poppy just released from prison and is angry to have served 17 years for a murder she claims she didnt commit, seems there was problems in her life leading up to the murder with her stepfather, she is 18 yrs old at this time, she has set out to prove she didnt murder the school teacher and bring to justice the person that did.

Serina was found not gulity ,because she was a minor at the time she was not identifed during the trial, she moved away and made a home in Leeds after Uni. She is now happily married with a daughter and has had to return to Brighton because her Mother is dying, just as Poppy is released from prison, she isnt happy to be home and is very troubled by it. Her husband knows nothing of her past.

The murder victim is Serina;s maths teacher and begins to have a secret affair with her, in one scene he actually rapes her, he also starts an affair with Poppy and it seems he tends plays each girl off against each other.

Thank you Anne :-D

I must be the odd one out because I enjoyed it.

The teacher was a bit of a swine wasn't he. Again I thought the acting was good and will be watching all 3 episodes to see how it all pans out.

I knew Johdi May when she was a little girl, so am always interested to see what she is acting in,albeit TV or Films.

Must admit it was a bit slow, and spent most of the time thinking 'Oh looks its that bloke out of..............................or that actress was in...............................' lol

So, no, didn't really hold my attention.

I am a bit of a fidget so the test for me is if I can sit still from beginning to the end of anything on TV. I was riveted by Downton and also hooked on Broadchurch, but I lost track last night watching Ice-cream girls and went and dead-headed a vase of flowers in the dining room :-D :-D

AnninGlos Report 20 Apr 2013 12:53

Well sadly I can hardly remember the story, that is nothing new I can read a book and instantly forget it when I read the next one. and I read this in July 2011. It was a Greaders book. Here is the review I did at the time.

I was totally gripped by the time I had read the first few pages. A real page turner that I was unable to put down.
The portrayal of psychological, mental and physical abuse was so well done it was almost too painful to read.
The characters were beautifully portrayed and were all very believable. And I just loved Conrad, his character was so true to life. What a little charmer. And of course I found Marcus unbelievably cruel as I was supposed to.
I thought Evan’s reaction to the revelation of Serena’s past was very believable, his response of hurt and anger was very true to life and just how somebody would behave.
I did have a few problems at first with sorting out who was narrating what. It is unusual to have a first person novel written from two view points I think. But I was well done and once I got going I got it sorted out OK. In fact after a while I realised that Serina and Poppy actually did ‘speak’ with different voices.
All that and murder too, and who really was responsible?
It must have been quite a daunting book to write as she bears so much responsibility to those who suffer the same situations. I hope people will be helped by the book, either by somebody realising that somebody they know needs their help or by a sufferer realising that they don’t have to suffer.
I liked her paraphrase of the quote in the notes. ‘evil continues to prosper when ordinary people do and say nothing’.

I caught about 10 minutes at the end of it on TV and thought the acting was not good. I think we are spoilt at the moment by Broadchirch.
