Ann I hope your sons friend is recovering. What is seen as a prank by some, has terrible consequences for others.

my ex husband is a train driver in australia... his mate was killed when someone threw a brick at the train.... sadly its the same the world over...

Maybe they should learn that every action has a consequence.
Perhaps an enforced time working on a head injury ward, or prosthetic limbs facility would make them think twice.

Most often it’s feral kids under the age of criminal responsibility.

Their excuse is usually they are bored wiff niffink to do!

So they have;
No Xbox
No internet
No Facebook
No 24 hour TV
No 24 Hour music
No shopping Malls
No books
No mobile/smartphone
No cinema
No skateboard / bmx parks
No school
No paper rounds
No sports / swimming facilities
No playgrounds
No videos
No imagination!

Bless ‘em.
I would take them to “A place of safety” each time they are found up to no good where they remain until a responsible adult comes to collect them, in a single cell without any of the above, so they can see just what being bored really is!
Might make the adults buck up their ideas if they have to get off the sofa and come to pick them up everytime they let them out unsupervised!

Hope the poor chap gets better soon. What on earth possesses these people to throw stuff at trains and cars. Have they no thought for others, oh silly question, of course they don't , it's all Me Me Me!

My son once had a full can of lager thrown at his train, not an HST, but a normal passenger train and that caused enough damage - I suppose they must get used to a lot of things - he's a real animal lover and he regularly kills animals on the line - mostly deer - on the plus side he has saved three cats - that's when he was driving on branch lines where he could easily stop and pick them up - and he found good homes for the three of them

Sadly this is becoming more common these days

I have myself have had this happen to me whilst driving down the motorway in a 44t lorry on two separate occasions but I was lucky that I escaped serious personal injury,

I read that too Ann. What must be the mentality of someone to do such a terrible thing. Cant have any sense of what is right and wrong. God help us.

I hope the driver recovers quickly but the shock of it must remain with him for the rest of his life.

my son, an HST train driver has just been teling me that an HST colleague of his is in a serious condition in hospital after some yob threw a brick off a bridge which hit the windscreen of his train - those trains go well in excess of 100 mph

It occurred in the Bristol area
