Oh lor, yes, I wanted to change my name when I was a kid. I wanted to be Carole!

I was the only one with my name at primary and secondary school.

Talking to boys, they always said 'What?'



Funnily enough.......................I was talking to a woman today in work, and she asked me my name, I told her, and her reply was

Oh what a pretty name. Much better than mine, Carole!!!!!

A friend of my son changed his name from Josiah to John about 20 years ago.

Having known him as just Siah from primary school days it was a bit of a struggle for me to remember to call him John. :-(

When he married it stated on the marriage certificate John R formerly known as Josiah R.

Yes I would. Buttercup is so dated and anyway I always wanted to be called Nasturtium but I suppose people would shorten it to Nasty :-( :-D

As one of 5 children, I was the only one to be given a single name....Anne.
Nothing else, simply Anne.

One sister and both brothers got 2 names whilst my remaining sister got 3.
An infant brother who died prematurely also had 2 names.
All of them are known by their first given name.

It's odd, because all my life, my Mum preferred to call me.... Frances !!

I gave all of my own children 2 names
Yet I found myself doing the same as my Mum did.
I have always called my eldest daughter .. Bo, even though her name is Louise

I'll stick with mine too - I was supposed to be a boy and may have been Basil :-D

I am quite happy with my name,but it was nearly Gloria Alysia!

Not really keen on my name Julie but I wouldn't change it...Been known as Jules for quite a lot of years now...

I have known someone for nearly thirty years through my daughter, who was at school with this lady's son.

She has always called me Pam.

I now teach her grand children, and she picks them up from school, so she has letters etc with my name on.

She stil calls me Pam.

Other people look a bit surprised but I have got so used to it I answer her without thinking.

It is a bit late now to correct her and as her grand children always refer to me as Mrs P....., then she won't learn my real name from them.

Perhaps one day she will read a school letter and the penny will drop, although she may take it for a misprint.

I don't particularly like my name but I can't think of anything I like better that I think would suit me.

Everyone gets my surname wrong in any case, it is always the same one, Palmer, so maybe I should just call myself Pam Palmer, there done !!!

Yes I would I hate the name I think it sounds alright on children but not for someone in their sixties, love the older names like lily, sarah Emily

Rather like Gwynne, I had problems when young, as I lived in Hampshire with a Welsh name.
I've got used to it and most people use an abbreviated version now, but my mother insisted ....'That's a boy's name'....so family tend to use the full version.

When about 12, I used to want to be Karen, after I read a lovely story about someone with that name, but think I'll stick with what I've got.

No I am happy with mine, it's shortened to Rose or Rosie mainly.

i wouldn't mind changing my surname though...maybe Rosie Rothschild would go down well with the bank? :-)

John! LOL! wondered where the Horlicks came from.

Mums name was Julia Tereas but was known all her life as Rita
Ex m-i-l was Louisa - only ever known as Mary
Mums mum was Mary Ellen known as Nellie

Uncle Charlie known as Dilk or Dilkie - have no idea where that came from!!!!

Have many family members who have changed/ or used different first names, as couple who changed their names completely. And others who added to their names to make them sound posher!!!!

I did change my name when I was 14, to the old fashioned more French sounding but with the English spelling.

Just a thought - so many people never knew what was their grandparents' moniker.
Some today don't either.

Even now my granchilren don't know their other nans name.
I taught them mine with my address just in case they get lost when visiting me.

Nolls, I don't like Norah - but I do like Nolls or Nolly. Reminds me of Noelle Gordon a bit.

My OH has a very Welsh Christian name and has always disliked it :-( :-( Have recently changed my surname from Cocoa to Horlicks - cos I so often get into a Horlicks on Genes chat :-( ;-)

Well being labelled Norah and called Noreen I would gladly ditch them both ....hate them and why I didn't call my self Kate my middle name I don't know Mum often called me that even though she was a Norah (and hated it) ...but g/mothers in those days had a lot to answer for :-P

My dad always called me 'wee one' even when I was a teenager and bigger than my 2 older sisters. There was a younger sister too, 3 yrs younger.

My mum Margaret was always known as 'Peg' & likewise my dad James was known as 'Sonny'.

I don't really mind what I'm called as long as it's not too early in the morning.

When I was a child I did because no one had heard of my name.

"That's Welsh, isn't it?" "What?" "How would you spell that?"

I've grown into it now but I always had a bit of a yearning for a Jane Austen sort of name - Emma, Emily, Charlotte, Phoebe, Caroline, Henrietta etc.

I was secretly jealous of a school friend called Hermione.
