If he wants kye he knows where the galley is.

Mayfield Report 18 Jun 2013 11:31

Well done, and not before time.
Perhaps a nice hot cup of kye might be appropriate as well as the Cava!

Mayfield

To save those not in the know Googling, Kye is hot very sweet chocolate / cocoa given to watch keepers on RN ships.

He didn't get the one from Russia.

Don't know how you would go about getting that one. It may only have been awarded to men on certain convoys or members of veterans associations who applied for it.

We only have had any dealings with them through SSAFA since he had his stroke and the Burma Star Association funded the shed.

From one Fred to another ,well done friend ,all of you should have been recognized many years ago ,by our government ,and not ,at the time, left to the Russians to give all the lads on the Arctic convoys recognition.Fred. :-D

Great news Sharron, hope Fred enjoys the presentation and the Cava, I must ask my neighbour if he was involved. I seem to remember he got a medal to do with the Russian convoys a few years back tho, wonder if it's the same thing

I don't really want anybody "big" to do it. Everybody at the village lunch knows him and he wouldn't like anything much bigger to happen.

A drop of cava and a parish councillor will do for him!

Well done for getting it for him... how about notifying the local press & get his photo in the paper.

Have you tried asking if the Naval C could come, or knows someone who would come in uniform.

edit. There will be a Veterans Group near you, try contacting them. If you Google you will see that several are organizing big events.

Normally we have a couple of retired naval commanders and a Dame at the village lunch. This month the best we can manage is a parish councillor which won't impress him much.

He was never very in awe of me when I was one anyway!

I have had to go to Aldi and buy some bubbly. I couldn't afford six of the £12.99 bottles so he will have to make do with Cava. All taste the same to me anyway!

Now I have to find his other medals, which I put somewhere where I would remember them!

They deserved it as soon as the war finished for what they went through. Like Bomber Command the forgotten heroes. They all defended freedom so all should be recognised.

Tell him thank you, job well done :-)
