Hi Island and Wendy,

If you have been emailed a different renewal price we can look in to this for you, please send details to the support team. We are not trying to avoid the situation.

Hi Shelley

Thank you for replying.

I take it from your comments that some members have been lucky enough to receive offers or discounts for half price memberships, because that is what is happening.

Having read the thread all the way through I think this I highly unlikely and it is just another excuse to avoid the situation.

What offers and discounts???

Community Manager Advisor Report 8 Jan 2014 13:53

Hi Wendy,

Customers are receiving varying prices due to offers and discounts which have been launched. We understand, due to timings, that members may have different renewal prices.

Any members who have queries regarding their renewal price, please can we ask you to contact [email protected] who will be able to look in to each case individually.

Regards,

Shelley

Hi Shelly

Please will you explain in plain English the reasons for the difference in the price paid by a standard member who has been with GR for more than ten years and is on continuous membership paying £15.96 per annum and a similar member with only four years membership who is paying only £7.96

I would appreciate it if you do not insult my intelligence by glossing over or evading this question and that you do actually address and answer my query truthfully giving a full explanation.

In your view is this difference in price between members given the exact same service fair?

This message is also posted on Genealogy Chat in the hopes that you will see and answer one of them.

Shelley, in view of the fiasco last year over Christmas & New Year, can you tell all the techies to remember, if it works it does not need fixed - so no tinkering over the festive period ;-)

Wishing all at GR "A Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year"

You still have,nt got the message have you, today I spent a couple of hours sending Emails all over the world, ordered things on line and sent a few Ecards, everything worked perfectly,no slow speeds etc. then I came on here, its really pathetic the service given by you to your customers.Perhaps as a Christmas Present to all of us you would contact"Brightsolid" to Employ some one with a"Bright Idea" as to how to run GR Competently for the benifit of its customers Not your Advertisers. :-( :-( :-( :-(.Ps. Have a Nice Christmas.**M**.

Another point is that if you contact support by the link in FAQ Feedback you don't need to specify your browser and OS as that is automatically sent.

Ken

Yes, I know that .......... I've seen all the complaints on here about people having trouble with IE in its various incarnations. I myself gave up using IE because of this site.

However, it does seem to me that the 3 most popular browsers that I've seen mentioned by members are IE, Firefox and Chrome

so why can't GR work with those 3????

Instead, we are told, and on occasion almost ordered, to use Chrome

I just find it extremely frustrating that almost 10 years after I joined GR, I am STILL seeing the question "which browser and server are you using?"!

Kense

Kense Report 2 Dec 2013 19:37

It may seem irritating to be asked about your browser but the fact is each browser is different and behaves differently.

In particular there have been problems on GR recently which seem to involve IE8 which is the latest you can use with Windows XP, and the recent release of IE 11 has caused error 503 reports.

As has been said elsewhere, some sites can afford to cater for most browsers but others have to limit the browser functions that they use.

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Dec 2013 19:07

oh lord ............

NOT, please, the usual "which browser are you using" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's is ALWAYS the excuse!

I do wish you'd find another reason rather than always blaming us, the members.

FYI, and for what it is worth ....................

I use Firefox ....................... and the ads are slow to load, maybe not slow enough for me to constantly complain to GR, but slower than on most other sites.

I also use Ad Blocker, which restricts the number of ads I get :-D

Hi Merlin,

Can I ask which browser you are using? Are you using Internet Explorer?

Thanks
