have you checked through to see if mum was married before??

If you have your birth cert then that must show on the indexes surely ???

our daughters birth cert has the wrong spelling of my maiden name. I wasn't aware at the time in the 1950.s I could have got it amended

There might be a transcription error. If the person who transcrbed your birth record for GR spelt your name wrong, it might not show up when you look for it using the correct spelling.

You need to put your name in exactly as it appears on your certificate

If born near the end of any quarter the chances are your birth will show up in the following quarter (or even year if last quarter of year)

I was born December 1953 and appear in the 1st quarter of 1954.

And as said before 'less is more' :-D

Were you born/registered outside of England and Wales?

Births in November and December are sometimes registered in the following year,

If you are looking at records on this site it may be just that you are putting in too much info in the search, try leaving out place of birth or exact year.

edit, check whether your birth was maybe registered in the following quarter, eg I was born in 1957, but my birth is reg 1958.

Does anybody know why my birth does not show up when I go to records. I do have a birth certificate, so how weird. Its freaking me out a bit.
