This is Cyprus calling Radio Jem.

It's 30 C, pups asleep after her early walk and breakfast. OH is pottering but he will be back in soon as it's too hot out there to do anything. Think he's looking for something or has he lost something - bet he's lost something - he has that look. Trouble is it has to jump out and bite him for him to find anything. Hopeless at searching. Last time he wanted the strawberry jam he looked in both fridges and took 2 cupboards apart. He then came and asked me if we'd run out. I opened the big fridge and on the top shelf front row (where it's always kept) there it was. :-D

He's back, doesn't look happy - off upstairs to the study, bet it's in the desk upstairs whatever he's after. Last place to look as usual, back again, smile on face and something small in hand - off to the back patio. :-(

Had a sneak look - he's mending the carrier for his cushion and back rest we take with us to make him comfortable when out. :-)

I'll settle down to watch the rugby now. Have filed nails so not tempted to chew them in this match - could be tense.

:-D :-D :-D <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

46 YEARS!

YES! IT’S 46 YEARS SINCE THE LIONS CAME AWAY WITH A SERIES WIN v NEW ZEALAND!

There were 4 Test Games that year, and under the Leadership of their legendary Coach - Welshman CARWYN JAMES - they pulled it off!

New Zealand won 1 game, The Lions won 2 games, and the 4th Test Game was a draw.

TEST 1: June 26th 1971
NEW ZEALAND 3 ~ THE LIONS 9

TEST 2: July 10th 1971
NEW ZEALAND 22 ~ THE LIONS 12

TEST 3: July 31st 1971
NEW ZEALAND 3 ~ THE LIONS 13

TEST 4:
NEW ZEALAND 14 ~ THE LIONS 14

1971 LIONS:

Playing as Fly Half (10) and Kicker for the Lions that year was Wales’ own BARRY (THE KING) JOHN- someone who I had a little crush on- I was just 14 at the time! Such a dish!
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/details/53333514
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/keepsafe/asset/details/53333447

Also playing was GERALD DAVIES, who was born and brought up in the village of Llansaint in Carmarthenshire – just a very small distance away from my childhood home!

And then there was MERVE THE SWERVE .... MERVYN DAVIES .... whose career was sadly ended when he suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage when captaining Swansea against Pontypool in 1976.

Playing in the third Test for the Lions was Llanelli’s Rugby “Patriarch” DEREK QUINNELL ....
Derek is the father of former Lions, Wales and Scarlets player, SCOTT QUINNELL, and also Craig and Gavin.
Scott Quinnell IS PITCHSIDE TODAY FOR SKY SPORTS - Commentary and Interviewing for Sky Sports. He also works for SKY as a studio pundit.

OTHER 1971 LIONS THAT I REMEMBER-

JPR WILLIAMS who was an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
This was at the time when Rugby Union was still an amateur sport, and our boys had to have day jobs!

Scrum Half (9) GARETH EDWARDS... who has been described by the BBC as "arguably the greatest player ever to don a Welsh jersey"

***I’m sure there were other notable players for The Lions and The All Blacks that thrilling Series.
I AM JUST DRAWING ON MY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF THIS TIME, hence the reason why the above mentioned players are Welsh.

THE NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL ANTHEM

GOD DEFEND NEW ZEALAND

The anthem has English and Maori lyrics, with slightly different meanings. When performed in public, the usual practice is to sing the first verse in both Maori and English.

Maori Verse: "Aotearoa"

"Aotearoa"
E Ihowa Atua,
O nga iwi matou ra
Ata whakarangona;
Me aroha noa
Kia hua ko te pai;
Kia tau to atawhai;
Manaakitia mai
Aotearoa

English Literal Translation (Karetu)

Lord, God over yonder,
Of all our nations
Listen to us gently,
With the infinite love
May the goodness bear fruit;
May your kindness come;
Please give protection to
Aotearoa

English verse that will be sung today: "God Defend New Zealand"

God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific's triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.
