I'm trying to locate my late fathers will & probate from India whilst under the British Raj period. Would all records have been sent to England after partition in 1947 or would they have remained in India? If all records were sent to England where do I start to look for this information? Thank you in advance for any advice

Have you looked on the probate site

His name and date of death may help us look for info

Bit vague on exact details but his name was William Maurice Carter born 1889 & I believed he died in 1945.

I have found wills on there for British subjects who have died overseas, so it is worth checking.

But otherwise Find My Past has British India Office Wills and Probates? If you don't have a sub there I can look if you give the name?

Sorry nothing on FMPs India office wills ( though there are some 1940s records there) or the probate search.
