I saw Amen Corner recently, it is just around the corner from St Paul's Cathedral.

Hair. Flares. Shades. Platforms Mini Coopers. Afghan coats. Kaftans.
Lots of noise lots of sax of all sizes.
I bought a scruffy house in Friern Barnett for £ 10K.
Those were the days.

What do you say to younger rellies when they ask if you really dressed like that, how life on Mars was possible without mobiles and the internet. Did people really read books for fun? Sometimes I feel like a time traveler.

I am certain we had much more fun.

We never got to see the Corner but we did get to see AFL at the Royal Court Liverpool in 1976. Wife had recently found out she was pregnant with our first so she remembered the date. She was probably Wide Eyed and me Legless!

As a student nr Milton Keynes "the Stables" was a big part of my life for two years. At the time JD & CL were very much around tho' their music and personalities so great they are among the immortals.

I last saw the Corner nr Reading in the early 70s. They were fine musicians. I even managed to get my head around the riffs in "Bend Me" on the alto sax but it took a while. You must have had a fun evening as the bands at "the Stables" very much share space with the audience.

We went to see Andy Fairweather Low and his band at the Stables in Milton Keynes on Friday. The Stables is a superb small venue, the brainchild of the late Sir John Dankworth and wife Cleo Laine.

Our seats were at the front side of the stage, literally 5m away from the band.

The concert itself was absolutely brilliant with Andy performing a wide variety of music for more than two hours. Not bad for a 69 year old and far better than some of the newer upstarts today.

The band were equally professional with the Alto Sax player, especially, deserving a mention.

Obviously the old hits were eagerly anticipated and the audience were were not disappointed. High in the Sky, Bend Me Shape Me, Wide Eyed and Legless, Gin House, Champagne Melody.

As everyone expected the show finished with (If Paradise Is) Half As Nice and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It must have brought back memories of cuddles on the sofa for just about everyone there….!
