Our lunch club is monthly, we know a couple of friends who go and enjoy it.mWe don't have any weekly meetings as there are so many groups we would run out of days. We have stopped at two although I quite fancy art appreciation. Sometimes things look as though they will be too difficult to understand but when you look closely they are not. We actually have a family history group but again it is on the wrong day for me.

Hi Ann

Yes I find the group very helpful and have met some lovely people
Haven't joined any of the groups as yet
Did consider the weekly walking group but my back and knees have their own agenda every day so decided not

Been on a couple of outings but I found the walking too much and I was holding back the ladies I was with so maybe won't go again

But the nice thing is you can choose what interests you

They have a weekly lunch club so that's looks a good possibility

God morning Les, Mersey, Shirley and Dermot, quite a little gathering and mine is white coffee, no sugar thanks. Fortunately there are still two of us, although at the moment there are four as we are at daughter's. Such a row at the moment as three of them unpack a new double bed, OH is busy counting in the bits as they come out of packages, each package was huge, hopefully there are enough bits for a full bed

Shirley U3A is great for meeting people isn't it, all ages and types. We joined a year ago, sadly we are missing the monthly meeting this month and I would have liked the talk too which is on Artisan cheese. We have also joined a couple of groups, Garden visits and photography, I did look at the book club and baking groups but they are not on convenient days. We did start with the walking group but they walked too fast for us, we like to take our time to admire the views. At the moment it looks like there may be a craft group so I will join that I expect, if it is on a good day.

Les why not look at the U3A in your area and see what is going on. They will have a web site , just put U3A and your area into search on google.

Morning Les, nice to see you on the boards - when you're finished there's some to do here. ;-) :-D <3

Hi Leslie.

Prospects of visitors usually gives me the spur I need to spruce things up around here in the mistaken belief that they will all be pleasantly surprised by the tidiness of my humble abode.

And, naturally, the 'best' china cups & saucers (the ones without miniature cracks) make their irregular appearance too. Our local Vicar rarely refuses a small glass of sweet sherry on his occasional house calls.

A warm welcome is rarely insincere - with the exception of the rude double glazing salesperson who has a habit of knocking vigorously, relating news of very special offers designed specially for my bungalow. I really must get the bell fixed before my poor battered door falls asunder all together.

The monthly Jehovah Witness team has given up on me long ago. I don't think they appreciated my dog's hearty greeting at the garden gate - no wonder the poor mutt knows very little about religion. :-D

No Les the emptiness doesn't go away

Even if you were in different rooms you felt each other's presence

That feeling isn't there when they are gone

I too get fed up with four walls so I do try to get out

Have joined the local branch of the U3A. Gets me out to a coffee morning every Tuesday at the local dobies garden centre for a natter
It's surprising how many you meet who are in the same boat
The monthly meeting too every second Wednesday in the month helps . I meet up with people who are at the coffee morning so am not on my own

We have couples too who attend so it's not all lonely folks

You like gardening so have you joined the local horticultural society
