Borders went bust because of a huge mess in a new IT system which the management refused to accept. They had plenty of customers. Tragic.
WHSmith, supermarkets and greedy landlords are gradually squeezing literacy to death in this country. Publishers are eating each other leaving nothing but an imprint behind.

If you live in a university town there is probably a branch of Waterstone's.

Maybe along with vinyl LPs real books will make a comeback. A book is not just text it is the paper, the font, the binding, the heft of the thing. With age a good book aquires patina and prescence. This even applies to paperbacks which is why early Penguins cost more.

At least some of the young are discovering the tactile pleasures of non digital and eating out for real.

The demise of Borders bookstore passed me by.....

Used to spend lots of time in one of those 20-odd years ago!

Denny's has a distinctly late 50s decor and the menu has not moved on much either.
A classic 50s/60s Ford or GM pickup (Bridges of Madison County) costs a small fortune.
Sixties style is the latest cool thing in kitchens...
Vinyl 33rpm LPs are outselling DVDs and can even be bought in J Sainsbury
Wimpy are considering a UK relaunch.
Happy Days

"When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It's a wonder I can think at all
And though my lack of education
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they'd never match
My sweet imagination
Everything looks worse in black and white

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Leave your boy so far from home
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away
Mama don't take my Kodachrome
Mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Although some of the images were more relevant to the US, it certainly brought back memories!
