maggiewinchester Report 29 Dec 2017 19:14

This has been the information in the local paper with regard to train services since 23 December:

Southern Hampshire
No service due to engineering works. Tickets being accepted on South Western Railway services

South Western Railway Hampshire
Replacement bus service running due to engineering works. Tickets being accepted on Great Western Railway services

Great Western Railway
Replacement bus service running

So basically - no trains, just buses :-S :-S :-S

They do this nationwide every year and every summer holiday so most passengers will know what to expect by now..

I have never heard of them offering a refund.

The new owner of SW Trains is planning major changes with a faster service to Waterloo from larger stations while snaller stations will lose out in quite a big way. One reason for doing this is that the new trains on order won't fit on many of the platforms. Reducing the number of stations to get platform upgrades will save a lot of money.

There will also be a direct fast service from Southampton to Brighton. So they say.

Southampton - Basingstoke is to be electrified with 25 kV 50 Hz overhead co running wih third rail. This will mainly be for the benefit of container shipping companies. Maybe it will make the A34 a bit less hairy..
