Gentle nudge, please for Mr Allan's post.

The second full moon is on Wednesday 31 January.

Hence the phrase "once in a blue moon".

It is also a Supermoon.

We won't have an eclipse in the UK. Full moon is at 13:27 so the maximum brightness won't be very apparent.

Wonders of the Moon

Allan Report 31 Jan 2018 10:29

Early evening here in WA, and so far the sky is clear. The eclipse starts just before 8.00pm.

I hope that the evening stays clear so that I can see the event.

The last major event I saw was Halley's Comet in 1986

Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;
This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;
One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;
Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;
From their shadowy cote the white breasts peep
Of doves in a silver-feathered sleep;
A harvest mouse goes scampering by,
With silver claws and a silver eye;
And moveless fish in the water gleam,
By silver reeds in a silver stream.

WOW! The eclipse is nearly total; magnificent

Co-incidence? Many dogs are barking in the neighbourhood. Normally, we may only hear the odd one

Allan

Allan Report 31 Jan 2018 13:00

Totality!

Kay????

Its here just coming breaking in the east, but coverd with cloud just now,,, just had a .telescope view shows it could be spectacular if the sky clears.

Eldrick will be all geared up. ;-) :

The surface is so clear with naked eyes but even better with a glass

A quick nudge for those who wish to view the Moon programme.......

Dear All

Hello

Just seen the full moon!

Wow.

There has not been a Super Blue Blood full moon since 1866.
Not to mention a Lunar eclipse.

So there is a great deal of activity in the astrological world.

Wherever you are, enjoy the view.

Take gentle care
Best wishes

It was magnificent; the skies in my part of WA were clear. :-)

The supermoon was magnificent in at least some of the UK last night. Unfortunately we have to wait until July to see an eclipse and that will only be partial.

As for the blue moon, that just depends on the way the calendar is defined and is a bit of a non event astronomically.
