They are home, my old clankers.

Actually, my nan's is back and identical one to the one my mother had but in better condition.

That suits me. I have a serviceable sewing machine like I had before but it has nothing to do with her.

Oooh - I hope you have fun! :-D

I've found shuttlecocks and the odd bobbins you need for one of mine, on the internet, but haven't ordered any.

Had a call from the lovely man at Sueco today.

My old clankers are going to cost me £100 between them. Yes, I know I could have a nice new electric machine with a nice plastic case for that price but my nan never used it did she?

Actually, I am not getting the Singer back but an identical one he has had in the store which is not as rusty as mine and is being swapped for the same price as the work he has done on mine.

There will only be one needle available for the No Name, such is it's antiquity, but there are obscure places I can try to get some more.

I have not used a sewing machine for at least twenty years so I may never need to search for another needle.

I've got two hand clankers too! :-D

Both Singers.
One was my granny's - it has a 'shuttle' bobbin, the other was my ex's grans :-D
One works - I believe the shuttle bobbin works too - but have to admit to never trying it.
My 'computer table' was my great gran's sewing table.
An intriguing adaption from something else :-D

Thanks Von, I know about Helen Howes but she doesn't actually do repairs, she tells you how to do it.

These two are handrolic jobs. One of our old biddies is getting rid of a treadle but I just don't have room for it.

are they treadle machines??

I learnt to sew on a Singer treadle machine that had been inserted into a lovely wood cabinet.

I do so wish that I had brought it over here with me 50 years ago :-(

OH bought me an electric portable Singer in our first year of marriage 'cos he knew how much I loved to sew. That was also later put into a wood cabinet ....... but it is not the same!

I have two sewing machines, each of which belonged to a grandmother I think.

They had been in the shed and M repaired the cases, one of which had fallen apart but I wanted them repaired or,at least looked at to make them usable because there is not much to be gained from keeping two useless sewing machines.

Anyway, today we took them to Sueco in Pompey and were delighted by the company. It is just a bloke and his dad in a workshop, a proper company.

Neither machine is as late as the twentieth century, one is a Singer and the other a German Singer copy known as a No Name because they were not allowed to call them Singer.

One is virtually useless but they will do what they can to get it sewing and there is nothing wrong with the No Name but you can't get the needles any more. They do know one man who might have some but he has a museum.

I do hope they can get one going. I don't want a new sewing machine.
