Well, as advised, we tied everything down, got candles and torches handy - prepared for the devastation forecast. We got a bit of drizzle and gentle breezes.
Further south has copped it according to the 7 am news - roofs off etc.

Additional posts say the road will be temporarily reopened c 28 Feb.

In the meantime, food is being barged or flown in. Supermarket shelves are rather bare due to panic buying, but its fine if you need a gluten free diet. :-D

People are getting out either by barge (NZD 600 per car, passengers included) or chipping in to fly in a small plane.
