I found a 5th cousin whose grandfather was on my tree so we found our link very fast.

I now have have my maternal line from myself to my 4th gt grandmother born around 1790 and relatives marriages and children back up to James verified in documents and DNA.

James's 3rd gt grandmother being the sister of my 3rd gt grandmother :-D

TBH the matches I had on Ancestry were 2nd cousins I am already in touch with.

The remaining matches 4th, 5th and 6th were a waste of time :-|

Put your raw DNA data on GEDmatch, a free site. People who have had their DNA analysed by several different companies are on there. You are able to contact them all free.

There are other sites like this but I have used this one so can tell you it works well. :-)

To help anyone who doesn't know how far back this goes

3rd cousins should meet at gt gt grandparents
4th cousins should meet at 3rd gt grandparents
5th cousins should meet at 4th gt grandparents

having been gifted a dna kit for christmas, and seeing the immediate results...I now am getting Dna matches for 3rd- 5th cousins.
ok so far,?
but to view these matches can cost up to £120 a year.
is it worth it I wonder... what do you reckon folks, is it a bit of a rip off?
