Well Barb, I don't know the origin of "Hoppings" it's always been called that.
As you enter the Town Moor immediately north of Exhibition Park, there they are, all the way up to Grandstand Road. The huge luxurious caravans near the entrance are where the "gypsy" wife sit telling peoples fortunes for £10 a palm while their husbands and sons are operating the swings and roundabouts and side shows making money hand over fist from noon til midnight for a week. Then on the seventh day's end they pack up, tidy up, and leave.

That night I fell over a cow, I was walking home in a straight line, didn't see it until it stood up, don't know who got the bigger fright.
