Equal Rights for Women, 2 July 1928, 90 years ago

Dear All

Hello

On 2 July 1928, women over 21 years of age were finally given equal rights to vote.

Although women got the vote in 1918, they had to be over the age of 30 and own some form of property. However, men could vote at age 21.

The Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 1928 came into effect on this day.

So whatever your politics, thank goodness we live in a country where we have this very valuable and important right.

This post is dedicated with deepest of respect to all the people who
fought for the vote all over the UK. <3

Take gentle care
With best wishes
Elizabeth, EOS

Somewhere, I have my gran's first Labour Party Member's card.
She joined as soon as she could, in 1928, when she was 24 years old.

Good for her, Maggie!

Thank you for that reminder, Elizabeth. We women are lucky these days to have so many rights, altho there are still some things to be argued for.

Sadly there are too many women across the world who are still downtrodden and have few rights. One day I hope things will be better for them all.

It is, Elizabeth - unfortunately, my sister has gran's original badge!

....waits patiently until sister decides to have a 'clear out'.
