Welcome to the boards Clare.

Have you added your name to the Adoption Contact Register? If Sally decides to look for her birth family she may decide to add her name to the register and if you have too then you will be put in contact with each other.

Have a look here:-

There’s further links on the above thread leading to Intermediaries who will act on behalf of birth families. They are allowed to look at her adoption file, discover her adopted name & trace her if at all possible.
They wouldn’t give you her new name & contact details unless she agreed.

There would be a fee for their services.

Has the birth family approached social services? They could leave a letter on her file for such time as Sally wishes to access it.

See if her birth reg is listed on Freebmd. If it is, add a Post’em (note) along the lines of Birth family welcomes contact. Create a generic email address to use such as @hotmail, @gmail etc.

Have you added Sally & her parent(s) name to your tree? Have you searched all members trees- top right under Search?

How old would she be now?

You could advertise in our local Evening News and Eastern Daily Press

Good luck

Liz’s suggestion re contacting the local paper is worth following. Considering the circumstances, they might run an article. That’s more likely to attract someone’s attention than a personal ad.

Register on the adoption contact register as suggested - it’s always possible that Sally has already done the same.

Although we sincerely hope they are reconciled, might her mother write a loving letter to her? We sometimes find that adoptees don’t wish to look for birth family until their adoptee parents have themselves passed away.

That's a really good suggestion DetEcTive.

A letter could be written and left with the adoption file if possible (or at least with the contact register) so that if Sally isn't found in time then at least if she went looking for birth family she would know that her mother had really wanted to find her.

We will do this and keep it safe for her as we will still try and trace her even when Linda has past. We shall leave a copy on file just incase

I hope you don't mind, I put a message on a facebook page called Norwich Remembers and several people have suggested ways of searching. See if you can find the page. I will try to copy the info here later.

Keep us posted please

These are the messages so far.

Dear Liz how sad. I do hope that Sally is found. Do they not know who adopted her and the surname . Maybe Norwich Evening News and Family Tracing Service The Salvation Army UK could help.

There is a popular facebook group called Secret Norwich. If you join they may allow this post. Wishing you all the best with your search.
