Island ....

I'm sorry you don't like my assessment that very few people just look on these boards, but it is an accurate assessment, and has ever been so since the day I joined GR.

I once worked out just what the percentage of people on the Boards vs the number of members allegedly belonging to GR (remembering that GR never deletes a member, members can only delete themselves).

It was scary ....................

possibly as low as 0.001%

So if a member posts a request expecting that the name will be spotted by someone, then I believe it is only correct to warn them that this is not likely to happen, and to guide them to Search All Trees, or other methods.

Of course, we all know that sometimes a name makes its way onto the world-wide web, and someone searching Google will find it, and be willing to pay the membership fee to see what the actual message, and then try to find a connection to a member who last posted 15 years ago!

As I said, I'm sorry if that offends your sensibilities!

I hope James hasn't been put off. Some of the 'very small number' might be up for the challenge.

I'm happy to have a dig but need a little more information, as requested above.

Could you give us your brother’s name? Does he have the same surname as you?
It might help trace their marriage & we can work from there.

‘married in the 1950’s’ is a whole decade. If it were at the beginning of the decade, there’s an increasing chance she, herself, has died.

When was the youngest child born? Once we’ve identified the original marriage, we could look for subsequent ones after that.

How confident are you that the marriage to your brother was her first?

She could also have remarried multiple times, moved abroad - or even died.

Is Anne Meek her birth or married name?

Was she born in Sutton Coldfield or did she just happen to be living there when your brother met her?

It's pretty much a needle in a haystack by the info you give.

James ........

it's a sad fact of life that a very small number of people actually look on these Boards on GR.

I doubt the vast majority of members even know about them, and as most members are under th free category, and therefore unable to post, then you have very little chance of this message being seen.

You might have a better chance if you

a) follow Florence's suggestion of looking on the Electoral Roll, and then trying to contact that persons, or

b) Look on Facebook, which seems to be the place where many people now post.

Doubt anyone will say yes !!

Try looking in members trees to see if she or any of her family are in anyone's tree

If found you can try to make contact through the find out more box and sending a message
