My great great great Grandparents were John Taylor and Charlotte Zanker and her great great grandfather was Jospeh Zanker 17 something but my why did he come to Billsedon ?
Zankers are a Jewish family Ashkinazi jews and I believe they came from Belgium and have many Zankers in the holocaust.
Can anyone help me find where the Zankers came from orignally what is the missing link?
I know that in 17 something there was a law passed that jewish people were allowed to live here and there were Hawkers sent out from Birmingham.
I am happy to help anyone myself as I have a good knowledge of Zankers in Billesdon but from whence they came is a full stop.My line with Zanker is Taylor another jewsih name .
Thank you do much God bless Elaine

You are probably better too to put your enquiry on the find ancestors board and delete both off the general chat board

Edit also on find living board

And genealogy board

Taylor isn’t a Jewish name. Originally it was an occupational one. Unless John’s ancestors anglicised theirs, they would have been called eg John (the) tailor, John (the) potter etc etc.

Have you tried https://jhse.org/about/ ?

Kath - it might be better to add to the thread on GC. There's a danger that research will be duplicated
