Hubby Michael was admitted to the Wisdom Hospice for his last two days in oct 2015

He was so poorly and couldn't have the medical treatment he needed at home

They were so caring of him ,and of us , and made him comfy so nature could take its course

We sat with him and spoke to him even though he was zonked out

He passed very peacefully

The Wisdom Hospice is partially funded by the NHS but is also a charity

As a tax payer I can do a gift aid. I did this for the charity shop I gave his clothes to

Soooo if you do any donations and are a tax payer please do the gift aid

It doenst cost you but gives the charity vat exemption on your donation

Thanks Barbara

Michael was very into charities .he was a practicing Catholic and was an altar boy in his young days

He did like to support the missionary works and the charities through his church

He was also very into history and we were long term members of the National Triust even tho for several years we paid the subs but didn't use them on visits

Sadly it was one of the things I had to drop after he passed as I reviewed my finances

I know he would be happy I donated his clothes to charity . It was the local branch of Sense which is for deaf / blind

He was very settled to go to the hospice . They had to have his ok and he was yes when I asked him if that was he wanted

I do get lots of charity requests through the post too. I wonder why they keep sending every year when I don't respond. Makes me think they are wasting folks donations on unnecessary requests
A bit off putting really to donating

Good morning Shirley, I gave most of my clothes and shoes away a year ago, knowing I wasn't go go to wear them. As for finances, I'm seriously short of them.

We sorted out a lot of those through the door postal solicitations when we contacted the charities concerned to say we made our own choices for donations, but we did certainly NOT support charities that continually solicited us OR who used our name for other purposes, to the extent of we demand they not even put our name in the list of donations for the year.

It was surprising the number that stopped soliciting us!!!

Unfortunately the various cancer societies did not stop ...... so they lost our donations for good.

Over the years we got solicitations from the Canadian Cancer Society, the provincial Cancer Society (which is separate from the Canadian one), the Cancer Agency, the Breast Cancer Foundation, and the hospice where my niece died because we had donated on one or 2 occasions ......... and all of them continued after receiving our letter.

We prefer to give a few big donations than a lot of little ones, so we limit ourselves to charities or groups that accept our conditions.
