I buy far too many books on-line from Oxfam.

It is quite surprising what they have because people die and leave their things to them and some have had specialist interests.

Have had some quite interesting and specialist medieval stuff from there.

Gwynn
I hadn't realised I hadn't heard clock ticking for some time as I often forget to wind it :-(

It's a Westminster chime clock that was a wedding present in 1957 and it's a 8 day clock .

I didn't think I was having hearing problems so was suprised when the test showed I did have a moderate loss

It's getting used to putting them in correctly now

Shirley,
Most of the time you will be amazed at what you've been missing hearing, without realising.
I find traffic noise still so intrusive sometimes.
Birdsong is a wonderful awakening though, but I could do with a filter on the seagulls, at this time of year....
They are SO noisy.

A few months ago, I lost my hearing completely, after an infection. It was a very quiet world for a while during recovery, so although my hearing is not good, I am grateful for the NHS care I've had to make the best of my limits.

I read all the time in bed so I don't dwell on things that worry me, so I get through loads of books. I mostly buy them from the local charity shop, 6 for £1. I am currently reading The 19th Wife, based around the Mormon/Latter Day Saints at the time of their founding with a fictional story mixed in. It's very interesting.

A recent good read was Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, linked to the internment of Japanese people born in America, during the war. I learned a lot that I didn't know and couldn't stop reading.

David

I absolutely loved reading

My best gift every Christmas was an annual or an Enid Blyton just five book

I have a wide like of authors and can get very engrossed

Sadly life and family took over my time so reading has taken a back foot but I still like a good read

I've always been fond of reading Shirley, in recent times I've lots

of books on Kindle. If I want Kindle reads one of my choice to me :)

My mum would say there's none so deaf as those that don't want to hear

This was when I would say I didn't hear you

Well in my defence I was a bookworm so would be so engrossed in the story and blanked the outside world out :-P

As a boy my Mother had a Miraculous way of restoring hearing
She'd say "ARE YOU DEEF ?"
