Not sure if it still happens but, as an MOD Civil servant we used to get an extra day for the Queens birthday, I think, if I remember correctly, it was the Tuesday after the late May Bank Holiday.

I find it interesting that New Zealand has a public holiday to celebrate the Queen's birthday, but we don't in UK.

Should we add that to our list?

I think we should have an extra day for VE day, another for VJ day, and why don't we get one for St, George's day?

Or give us one in November, there are no Bank Holidays between end of August and Christmas...

Can’t see them giving an extra bank holiday as it would effect the productivity. It would also disrupt the school year.

As it stands, the bank holidays for April & May 2020 are

Good Friday: Friday 10 April
Easter Monday: Monday 13 April (England, Wales and Northern Ireland only)
Early May bank holiday: Friday 8 May
Spring bank holiday: Monday 25 May

As Elizabeth wrote.

It seems to me that we ought to make more of VJ Day. Thousands were still interned and fighting in Asia after VE Day. After fighting in the Atlantic, the Med etc, my Dad was sent to the Far-East and was in the first fleet to arrive in the South China Sea after the fall of Singapore.

While I appreciate the will to celebrate VE Day, it's VJ Day that stands out for me.

So I hope our government doesn't forget that the war was not over so early for everyone.

To allay concerns why can't government leave the bank holiday on Monday 4 May and give us all an extra day's holiday in recognition of the anniversary of D-day? It makes more sense to me.

VE Day marked the end of the World War in EUROPE-fighting continued in the Far East after that and VJ Day marks the real end of the second World War

There’s already cries of frustration from people who have booked weddings for the original weekend.

The Government has announced that the date of the early May bank holiday in 2020 has been moved from Monday, May 4 to Friday, May 8.

It is to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE day, the end of the Second World War.

All sorts of problems will arise now.
