The Scottish bmd certificates from ScotlandsPeople give you better information than English certificates. For instance, they tell you who both parents were, whether is for a birth, death or a marriage. And you can bring it up on the screen in an instant.

You'll also find lots of Scottish records on the free site - https://www.familysearch.org

You will need to register with the Scotlands People site if you want to use it but that's free as are a set of results.

You need to buy credits - £7.50 for 30 - if you want to "open" the results to look at a full record. But at 6 credits to look at e.g.. a marriage record in full then it's a steal !!

BMD's are closed to full view within certain time frames i.e. births under 100 years, marriage 75 and deaths 50, but you can order the more recent certificates if you need the (£12 tho')

You'll get census transcriptions on here, up to 1901 but BMDs and the 1911 census are held on the sister site https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
