How sad and unnecessary. Poor Ralphie. I am so sorry for your loss. Several years ago my Lucy cat was found dead after going missing, and it's thought she died from ingesting antifreeze too. It's heartbreaking.

I think I read somewhere that antifreeze tastes sweet so encouraging animals to taste spilled liquid.

Maybe your local newspaper would write about it to inform more people.

Thinking of you

hi
I lost my beautiful British Blue to an aggressive cancer when he was only 12 I know how it feels.

There is no need for this problem to exist.
If buying your own antifreeze get one with an anti cat/dog/child additive
eg:
https://www.halfords.com/advice/motoring/expert-advice/guard-against-antifreeze-poisoning
and if a garage is doing the job check for the same. Now that Chope is standing down as MP maybe a private members bill will at last make the additive mandatory.

If you feel brave do what I did and sticker/leaflet the neighbourhood into awareness. It works and shames those with leaks to get them fixed.

I've heard of a number of instances of this happening Mr M. I wonder what is in anti freeze that cats find so palatable.

I'm sorry your cat had to suffer this way. <3

So sorry to hear about Ralphie Mr M, such a shame. I have heard of this before. I wonder if it was in a puddle somewhere and the person didn't know it had leaked out onto the road.

You may have seen my post on another thread about our cat Ralphie who we lost yesterday.

This is why.........

Could I urge people to be very mindful when using antifreeze please. We lost our big handsome cat yesterday because of high toxicity in the blood due to what the vet reckoned was him ingesting antifreeze. On Monday morning he was fine but we had to have him put to sleep on Wednesday because of acute kidney failure (his blood results were off the scale)....it happens this quickly.

He was a healthy eleven year old had had expected him to be around several more years and are heartbroken to lose him especially in this way.
