They are cMs - centiMorgans. They are named after a man who did a lot of DNA research early on and died in the 1940s if I remeber correctly. They are just the researchers measurement. The amount of cMs gives you an idea of what relationship is possible with your DNA relative. The greater the cMs the closer the relationship.
