Look for woman who had difficulty having children - able to get pregnant but have miscarriages or have still births. In earlier times this would put the mother at risk as well.

Death certs. would help. Look for problems related to lupus as it might not be diagnosed as lupus.

You also might have to consider that the lupus arose from a spontaneous mutation in, say, your sister-in-law or her mother. In that case, you will be able to go no further back.

Start with getting the death certificates for her mother and grandmother, and see if it says they died from anything that is either called lupus or a result of lupus.

Remember that the further back you go, the less likely it is that the certificate will say the word "lupus".

For example, my OH's family has a history of colon cancer in both men and women. His grandmother died of it, and her death certificate in 1931 says death of "Inanition and Carcinoma of the Intestine" .......... Inanition being starvation.

The medical terms get even more obscure the further back you go!

But get the mother's and grandmother's certificates first.

Map out a family tree for her. Look at early deaths, preferably of females, from both sides and order some death certificates from the GRO.
You are then probably looking for kidney problems.

I would like it noted I have never said my sister, I have always said my sister in law which is my husbands sister has the Lupus. we are trying to find out where she has got it from

Margaret is quite correct ....... your sister-in-law is not a blood relative to you, "only" a married-in.

So there is no reason why any of your relatives should have Lupus.

Her daughter and granddaughter have obviously inherited this autoimmune disease from her.

It's her family that should be investigated to see if you can discover when it first appeared, if possible. Not yours.

But surely your sister-in-law is not blood related to you?

My Sister in Law has Lupus as does her daughter and her grand daughter!, so far our other siblings do not have it, however we are told it is heredity but we don't know where it has come from. Can any one help... maybe has or had it past and present.
