I know he was involved in something about Jimmy Saville.

Starmer became the Director of Public Prosecutions and head of the CPS in 2008.

Despite a few previous complaints against Savile, nothing was done, until after his death, in 2012. Mainly because of the way the police and CPS treated victims.

Starmer apologised for the shortcomings in the part played by the CPS in the Savile case in years gone by.
He wanted a change in how victims were treated.

He said he wanted the Savile report to be a "watershed moment" for prosecutors and police officers alike.

In October 2013, new guidlines on the prosecution of cases involving child sexual abuse in England and Wales were been published.

The repercussions of somebody as high profile as Savile being prosecuted and found innocent would have been enormous and hugely expensive and the victims would have been harmed considerably more than they already had been.
