O.h.'s car insurance is cheaper with me as s named driver, than with just him, he is 66, I am 73!

Mr Owls granny drove an 09 plate Citroen C3 when she was quoted £600 when she was 83. Mr Owl shopped around for her and managed to get it for £300 by adding himself as a secondary driver. We didn’t have a car then just Mr Owls work van. Granny was happy to loan it to us if she didn’t need it.

When my dad turned 80, 2 years ago, he got a dreadful shock with his car insurance. He drives an old volvo estate not a fast high powered sports car. His insurance went up horrendously from about £200 a year to £600!!

When he queried why, they said at 80 he was more of a risk than when he was 79..lol
He did search around and think he found a company called Hastings direct who were far more accommodating.

I have to smile when I see insurance adverts offering to save me around £300 per year on car insurance.

I was with Elephant and last year the quote was £345.36, after a bit of haggling.

But I went onto a price comparison site and got it with the AA for £220.42.

Not bad for an, admittedly fairly ancient, Volvo XC70 (which I love).

Any company offering to save me £300 would be paying me rather than the other way round.

Yesterday the refund arrived - £90.00. A very pleasant surprise indeed. :-) :-) :-)

OH said it would help pay for the TV licence.

Our car Rexi costs is around £90 a month for tax and insurance. Rexi does 12 miles to the gallon though and is a lot of fun. Mr Owl has had a licence for 21 years now and has never made a claim otherwise Rexi would be a lot more expensive. We have not been offered a discount by the insurance company but cars like Rexi are fun cars not every day cars. Rexi is a Mazda RX8 40th anniversary edition.

Mr Owl has a Golf as a company car which we can use for personal miles as long as we put in the correct mileage for personal and business each month.

Our daughter is with Elephant and they have refunded £25 without being asked because everyone's mileage and claims have been lower.

Im with Direct line and 2 weeks ago as I had Sorned my car and cancelled tax and insurance, I decided to get car back ready to drive.

I tel D/line and they had kept my details and my no claims bonus.
When the lady did a new quote, I had a pleasant surprise as with breakdown cover as well, my monthly direct debit is £10 a month cheaper than last year.
What a lovely surprise as it normally goes up.

Although over the last 5 years D/Line have been the cheapest and the increase a month has been less than £8 so for me they really offer the best deal.

No such luck with the AA insurance! My renewal had shot up by over £70 when I renewed a few days ago so I went elsewhere and got it for £85 less, I did state my mileage for the coming year to be a few thousand less though as I am hardly going anywhere at the moment.

I got a letter from Churchill, with whom I inside my car, saying a similar thing. I will be ringing them tomorrow.I

I have hardly driven my car since lockdown.

My car sat in the garage for 8 weeks them I thought I should drive it

It did start first turn of the key but the brakes did some squealing for the first few stops then it was ok

It had its annual service and mot last week and was collected by a Fords driver to collect and return

Told him it needed a blow ! for the emissions otherwise it may fail the mot but it passed ok

Been out today for a trip and it was very sweet to drive

Is a low mileage Ford Fiesta. Diesel and is ten years old

Son is with Direct Line,his insurance was due for renewal,it was £14.00 less than last year.
He was expecting it to be more!

Most letters from insurance companies are asking for money - annual premiums and so on.

Today we had a letter from our car insurance (Direct Line) to tell us that if we had done a lot less mileage than usual during lockdown we could have a refund. Our normal mileage is about 1,000 miles a month, whereas the mileometer (reset to zero on 31/3 after the last service) is now reading 880 - a saving of some 3,000 miles!!

So OH filled in the form on-line and in due course we will get a welcome refund.

Anyone else with Direct Line should get a similar letter. For other insurance companies it might be worth getting in touch. :-) :-)
