My children have worked through it all too - one as usual from home, the other into the office every day. Neither of them has done any trips that they would normally do in their lines of work.

Number 1 grandchild got a part-time job during the crisis, which is about to become full-time later this month. Number 2 grandchild is about to start his job. Number 3 grandchild starts back at school next Monday.

Times are even harder for those seeking work at present and if I was young and had a job that required me to be out of the house every day I am not at all sure whether I'd risk a holiday anywhere at all. But perhaps I am not young at heart and I'm pleased I was never tested in this way.

The writer of the letter works in retail. Hopefully not the store my daughter works in as she would have to do overtime - she too has worked all the time but had a staycation with us!

I am still sticking to the garden and a few brief rides in the evenings just to keep the car 'fresh' even though it is OH who has the medical problem. I would expect him to do the same if the shoe was on the other foot.

My coffee mornings (a few times a week in 'normal' times) have not been missed because none of our small group is back coffeeing yet.

OH, who was even more gregarious than I was, has surprised me. Apart from a few doctor's appointments, he has found plenty to keep himself occupied. His friends seem to be in the same frame of mind.

Whereas, in the past I thought myself to be a 'people person', I am quite happy being a hermit - albeit with OH for company. We have tootled along quite nicely doing our own things with hardly a disagreement between us.

But then we only ever argued about minor things; we were always in accord with major things.

The young are a different breed.

Having said that, I know of several oldies who couldn't care less about anyone else.

I wonder what that person thinks 'the right thing' is and how old she/he is?

My granddaughter spent a weekend visiting a couple of friends where she once lived - in this country. She and her partner stayed in a hotel and caught up with the other two in the pub that one manages. Seated around a large table, suitably distanced, as they chatted, someone unknown to gnddtr but known to her friend decided to join them - a little too close for comfort for gnddtr. Two days later they got the call to let them know that person had tested positive. Luckily, gnddtr and partner proved negative when they had their tests.

You know that saying .... The young know no bounds ....

They'd have a hard time getting out of Australia, and an even harder one getting back in.

Wonderful letter in today’s DM. Someone who is still to go on holiday asks why they are being penalised for doing the right thing and having to take an extra 14 days off work.

They’ve not even gone yet! Still time to change their minds.

I would never blame the crew because they may have feared aggression if they spoke to anyone about not wearing a mask - but, if the crew members weren't wearing masks they ought to have been doing so.

One of my children (and family) returned on Saturday with a different airline to Newcastle. Everyone on that flight (different airline) wore a mask, passengers and crew. The only time anyone removed the mask was to eat or drink, after which the mask was put back on promptly.

It never changes, does it - young adults who think they're invincible?

I reckon that is a good description of them. And just maybe “lessons will be learned “ but I shan’t hold my breath.

There is a full blown enquiry going on because none of the crew were wearing masks and passengers were allowed to walk up and down the plane.

Some people are proud to claim stupidity for themselves.

All passengers and crew have to self isolate because some didn’t do what they were told to do, can’t believe they are so arrogant. What part of wear your mask at all times is complicated.
