If that fails I'll put it on a memory stick and give it to her (she's in the same village).

nb: you will need to create a google account (free) if you do not already have one. The same drive can be accessed from any device eg phone, computer, tbalet and any OS which supports Chrome.

Have you considered burning the folder (including sub-folders) onto a cd and mailing it?

Or copying to a memory stick? The actual 'download' file is just under 10MB

What I need to send is the folder which contains the whole setup suite of programs.

I haven't used Google Drive so will download and install it and try to figure out how it works.

We corresponded quite some time ago re:PAF. I don't think that any other member uses it.
There are two application files - paf5 and pstart.
But you would need to send the whole suite, not just the setup file. Otherwise what will the setup file setup???

Upload the file to Google Drive and then share it with the recipient using their email address.

I originally downloaded the program file from the LDS site way back in the noughties when I first started doing genealogy so I know it is safe and have installed it on each of my computers in turn as they have been upgraded.

I'm not tech-savvy enough to help, but this might explain why you are having problems.


EXE Files Can Be Dangerous

Lots of malicious software is transported by way of EXE files, usually in the background of a program that appears to be safe. This infection occurs when a program you think is authentic launches damaging computer code that runs without your knowledge. The program may, in fact, be real but will also hold a virus, or the software might be entirely fake and just have a familiar, non-threatening name.

Therefore, like other executable file extensions, be careful when opening EXE files that you download from the internet or receive by email. EXE files have such a potential for being destructive that most email providers won't allow them to be sent, and some won't even let you put the file in a ZIP archive and send that. Always make sure you trust the sender of the EXE file before opening it.

I need to send someone the set-up file for the PAF (Personal Ancestry File by the Mormons) program but Outlook blocks .exe files.
I've tried changing the file extension to .e-x-e and to .docx but that hasn't worked.

Suggestions please.
