OH and I never bothered with it, but each to their own.

To me it was more important how we treated one another the rest of the year, that mattered.

His parents must have been a bit more romantic.
Today would have been their wedding anniversary.

We always swap cards and enjoy them, but no overpriced flowers or gifts. We give each other gifts as and when.

We stopped valentines after chatting about it

As we both had birthdays a week apart in March we decided it was enough

We also stopped buying each other a birthday present as our birthdays were only a week apart , it began to feel like we were just buying for ourselves and as money was a bit tight it seemed a waste

I said to hubby I don’t want you to spend money ,a nice card is all I would like

What we did do is to go out for a lovely joint birthday dinner around the birthday time

He did start to get flowers delivered for my birthday too in later years and I was “now I feel mean .”

His response was no I got them for you because I want to ,I don’t want you to get me anything

We did make a big effort though for Christmas presents

I have some beautiful earnings still and some crystal ornaments as well as some cat ornaments built up into a collection over many years




It worked for us ! <3 :-D
