I have just heard - and seen- a cuckoo! :-D :-D

Initially I thought it may be a pigeon, but then I saw it :-S

Lovely.
But I wonder if the cats will see ( to) it. ;-)

Wow... That seems really early.

Not many birds' nests around yet, so he / she will have to find a mate and look out for themselves for a while.

It is early, Gwyn - hence my thinking it was a pigeon!
There were two birds out there - well two flew away together.

I had a couple of goldfinches on the mossy excuse for a back lawn last week.

Nameslessone - George caught 2 birds (one survived), just after we moved in, but as I managed to take both off him - he likes to bring them indoors - I'm hoping he realises it's a lost cause - he hasn't caught any more since.
I'm also hoping the birds realise he's a very naughty boy, and they shouldn't go near him! :-D :-D

Apparantly the earliest ever reliable sighting of a cuckoo was at Farnham, Surrey on 20 February 1953!!

I'm not far behind then! :-D

Wow that is early Maggie. Up here its usually around 1st may. i have a pair of doves that nest in a tree in my garden and when they coo, sometimes it sounds like the cuckoo to me...Yes really it does lol

I thought it was pigeons too, until I saw them fly off.

So there's a couple of clocks missing their cuckoos?

Lots of amorous cooing and pairings going on with the birds on local rooftops yesterday.
Some wood pigeons, but mostly seagulls screeching about their territory on the flat roofs.

Later on, we expect to have Royal shouting & screaming direct from Buck House.
