Morning to all.
We had a flurry of snow early this morning, most of it has gone now so you can imaginge how wet it is,some large puddles.
It's very dark just now so looks like more rain or snow is coming.

Loks like my garden days are well & truely over for thie time being, it is soo wet out thre so the leaves are going nowhere.
Looking out of the living room window I can see 2 new flowers on one of my Roses !

Linda I hope you manage to get to the funeral. .

Take care everyone.

Joan.

Good afternoon all.very cold here, 3 degrees but cloud and sun and no rain or snow

Hope the snow holda off for you Linda so that you can get to the funeral.
Joan I think now is the time of year when we have to hope the garden can look after itslelf and we don't have to worry about it. I did manage to pick up some of the leaves in my garden from the neighbour's tree. (I am sure most of the leaves fell on my garden. I filled a large black bag with the leaves so they can rot down for compost next year.

Afternoon all

We had a few snow showers last night and they are on & off. The hills have a light dusting. Daughter went to town and said it is a lot worse over there.

I have been busy wrapping gifts and Tesco came too so pretty non stop here.

Xmas decs are nearly all up, just a few more things to sort out.

Linda, hope you manage but if the Pennines is bad, please dont risk it!

Joan, not sure you will manage out anymore now but you can admire from inside where you are warm and cosy. I still have some roses and fuchsias plus a geranium in flower. Pretty bonkers for November.

Hope everyone is warm and cosy indoors and if you venture out, wrap up well and take care when walking on icy ground. It was 1 degree here last night brrrr

LindainHerriotCountry Report 21 Nov 2025 13:23

When we woke up yesterday morning I checked the route to Liverpool , only to find out that the M62 on the top of the Pennines because of an accident. That meant we would have to go on a different slower route, but luckily by the time we got up, the motorway had been reopened. We set off early, but everything was fine apart from getting lost at the end, despite using the SatNav. In the end it took us two and a half hours to get there. My daughter had stayed at a Premier Inn just around the corner from the church , so we were able to go there and wait with them. The service went very well as did the wake afterwards. Coming back, the traffic around Manchester was absolutely horrendous, so it took us three and a quarter hours to get back.
I was glad to get into bed last night because my back was aching from being in the car for so long.

It is absolutely freezing last night and isn’t much better this morning. OH had a dental checkup just before lunch, so I went into town with him and while we were there, we had lunch out of course :-)

It is back to reality this afterthought as I have the bathrooms to clean nd then some cooking to do as my son is coming to dinner tonight.

Good morning Florence. Don’t you get your test results via the NHS app? Maybe it is different in Scotland, but here the results appear on the NHS app as soon as the doctor gets them. It is much easier to see the results and far better because you can see the actual numbers and compare them to last time. It is much better than it used to be when you had to ring up and all you got was someone telling you that “everything is fine”

Our Xmas lights switch on is this Friday, but I won’t be going.
This afternoon is the carol service for the Memory cafe which I volunteer for. It is a fund raising event as well, so I will go early to set up the tombola. I am a humanist, not a Christian, so I won’t go into the service, I will just stay in the outside cafe area, guard the stalls and get the refreshments ready

ArgyllGran Report 25 Nov 2025 12:48

The NHS app only applies to England.

This new app (below) is starting in Scotland in 2026, but I'm not sure how much personal info will be accessible.
They say, "Once the rollout is complete, MyCare will be the most wide-ranging app offered to patients anywhere in the UK."

https://www.gov.scot/news/scotlands-new-health-and-social-care-app/

A beautiful calm, sunny, blue-sky day here too, Florence - but very cold.
The garden was all white with frost first thing - and still is in places where the sun isn't shining on it.

Afternoon all
very very windy with gales of over 70mph heading this way tonight/tomorrow!

Been busy with pressie wrapping and finally written out all my cards for posting.

My GP tel with blood result and pleased to say its all fine now and no repeat for another year :-D

No we don't have an App Linda for results and the GP has to give you them as receptionist have no access to your files. Anyway they always like to chat over the results and discuss or explain anything we may not understand.

Im off to the kitchen next to make a chicken/rice stir fry for tea whilst we still have the electric, so early tea for us.

Final craft fayre on Saturday and I only have about 14 candles left for sale plus cards and gift tags so hoping to come home with empty boxes!

Hope everyone ok and keeping warm

Good news about your blood result, Florence!

If your power goes off, I hope you don't have to use your 14 candles!

Wet and windy here, too, and forecast to be worse tomorrow.

I have a Specsavers appointment tomorrow - which will mean drops in my eyes - which will mean headlights will be even more dazzling than usual when driving home in the dark and rain.
Not looking forward to the drive home! I hate driving at night in any case, especially when it's raining.

ArgyllGran Report 28 Nov 2025 11:41

I hope you're OK this morning, Florence.

It was a very wild night here. 90mph gusts, and lots of lightning and VERY loud thunder, together with torrential rain.

It's still a very dark day with heavy cloud and lots of rain, although less wind, thank goodness.

No damage, thank goodness. A couple of large ceramic pots at the back of the house were blown over, but not broken.

Our power went off for only a few seconds, but two miles along the road they were without power for several hours, though back on now.

Amokavid Report 28 Nov 2025 14:04

Though it was windy here it wasn't too bad ! we've had much worse, the gusts were scary & I was still worried, thankfully the powere stayed on.
I sat in the bedroom chair as I couldn't settle in the bed.

It's still windy today but has not as bad as it was, it's dry but dull, just maybe some of the leaves might have been dry enough for the wind to blow them from the garden into the fields, LOL.

Nothing going on here, most "exciting" thing I have done recently is write my Christmas cards, not many to do now.
Did my weekly shop yesterday, apart from the staff I never saw anyone I knew, we usually see someone to chat to & catch up on their news.
The shops seem quiet at the moment.

Joan.

I am pleased that your test results were good Florence
I hope your Specsavers appointment went better than mine AG. I have finally got my new glasses after they had to remake them having got the prescription totally wrong. The new pair seems fine now.

It has been really cold for a few days now. We just had a torrential rainstorm which knocked out the tv reception. We have free sat , so the rain interferes with the signal.

We had a shock a couple of days ago. I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw a photo of my next door neighbour. It was people offering condolences on his sudden death. We hadn’t seen him for a few days, the last time we did, he was putting his dog into kennels while he had some treatment on his eyes, so we didn’t notice that he wasn’t around. It seems that it was nothing to do with the hospital, he had a blood clot in his lung and was gone instantly. He had only just retired in the summer. The worst thing is that his wife is in a nursing home because she has early onset dementia and it got to the stage when he could no longer look after her. She was already in the home before we moved here, he went to see her every day. They do have one son, but presumably she will inherit everything. I hope they have a power of attorney in place with the son to take over in case of her husbands death. If they don’t, it is going to be an almighty mess as she doesn’t have the mental capacity to handle her affairs. The court of protection will have to take over and the son will have no say in his mother’s care.

We both have the two POA’s in place so that if one of us loses capacity, the other one can take over. Also if one of us dies, our son and daughter step in as replacement attorneys for who ever is left. It is just common sense to have them in place as an illness or accident can happen at any time, leaving you unable to cope, not just having dementia.

Afternnon all
Bit late posting but been so busy today having a pre xmas spring clean if that makes sense.

Xmas fayre wasnt that good yesterday as few people came!! So another project for next year but need to do some research first which I will share in the new year.

Charity bingo was well attended and i won a bottle of Gin lol, a digital radio and new man one a hair salon voucher for £50 so we did ok on the whole but none of us drink!! Its worth £39.

Today i have been cleaning my bedroom out, the windows etc and the hall cupboard. All of which to ages to dust clean reorganise and put it all back.

Just waiting on jacket potatoes for tea and toasties.

Its brrrrr here today with a nasty biting wind. heating on full here and still feeling cold!

Hope everyone else is ok and keeping warm

ArgyllGran Report 30 Nov 2025 17:38

What a shame the fayre wasn't better attended, Florence.
There was a craft fair in a neighbouring village here yesterday, and it was poorly attended too.
Maybe the weather, or people with less money - goodness knows.

Thanks, Linda - yes, my Specsavers appointment went well. No change since last year, thank goodness.
Following an op several years ago, my left eye has a distortion in the centre of the retina, which makes everything look squiggly.
I'm therefore very protective of my right eye, as I depend on it for driving, reading, etc.

I hope your neighbour's son manages to sort out his parents' affairs OK. It sounds like a potential nightmare for him.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 30 Nov 2025 18:50

It was a dreadful day here yesterday as well. We were all supposed to be going to a Christmas fayre yesterday after7, run by one of the local special needs groups. Esme was going to see Santa. Unfortunately when she woke up, she started with one of her stomach migraines, so by lunch time she was in hospital hooked up to a drip again. Getting the meds in straight away means that she gets over it faster, so she was home by mid evening.
OH and I decided to go, we got the bus, but I hadn’t realised how hard it was raining, so we were both drenched by the time we got there. It was still well supported despite the rain. I bought a couple of things even though they were over priced as I wanted to support them. We got even wetter on the way back home, but stopped off for coffee and cake in the town on the way back

We popped down to see Esme this afternoon, just to take their advent calendars. We ended up being there all afternoon helping out with jobs. We reorganised the furniture in her playroom as we have a project in mind for Xmas . We took out a lot of toys to make room for new things. I put them on the Facebook free site when I got home and there are people asking for them already

Hi to all.
It's been a very wet day here today, started off not too bad, but by 11-30 ish the rain came on & soaked everything, the garden looks dreadful !

Got the weekly shop done this morning, nice & quiet in Morrisons, I am surprised to note that though the store has the usual Christmas items on the shelves, the store itself is not looking very Christmassy !

Our eldest son & his partner are visiting tomorrow, it's been a while since he was last here so lots of things to catch up on.
He has been very busy sorting out the flooring in the downstair loo & hallway due to a serious leak which they hadn't noticed for quite sometime. He has had to replace all the flooring, flooring that hadn't been down very long !!
Such a shame.

I do hope you have a very enjoyable Birthday meal Florence.
